Democrat 2020 hopeful mocks Clintons’ speaking tour, calls James Clapper a ‘blatant’ liar

Democrat presidential candidate Rep. Tulsi Gabbard delivered a scorching rebuke Monday of disgraced Obama-era Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and the media propagandists at CNN who present him to their audience as a paragon of truth.

“I think you had the director of the Department of National Intelligence at that time, James Clapper, who sat before the United States Senate and blatantly lied,” she said during a discussion Monday on well-known centrist commentator Joe Rogan’s widely popular podcast.

“He was asked very directly, ‘Are you collecting this information,’ and he said, ‘no.’ ‘Are you collecting this information on American citizens,’ and he said, ‘no.’ And yet, he is somebody you see on TV almost every day as an expert in this country without any consequence lying to the American people.”

Listen:

It’s this sort of blunt candidness that has spurred some conservatives, libertarians, independents and even non-establishment liberals alike into arguing that she’s the only “respectable” and “sane” Democrat running for office this election season.

Conversely, it’s this same honesty that’s made her an enemy of the mainstream media.

The remarks she made Monday will likely only engender more media anger toward her.

Besides taking a brutal shot at media hero James Clapper, the 2020 contender also mocked former President Bill Clinton and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The mocking occurred after Rogan brought up the couple’s poorly performing speaking tour and wondered aloud, “Who is paying to listen to Hillary Clinton talk?”

“When I hear about the money those guys make to just to go talk, like who is paying for that? Who is paying to listen to Hillary Clinton talk,” he asked.

“That’s right,” Gabbard replied, laughing. “What are they getting out of it?”

A free nap?

“I would love to pretend to be a banker, put a lizard skin face mask on, go sit with those bankers and listen to one of those conversations that Hillary Clinton got paid a quarter of a million dollars for,” Rogan continued.

“Yeah, never released the transcripts,” Gabbard replied in reference to the Clintons’ longtime refusal to release transcripts of what they say at the lavish speaking events they attend.

Listen:

To be clear, these criticisms of the left’s heroes doesn’t make Gabbard a conservative. She’s as anti-Trump as any other liberal Democrat, though at least her criticisms of him make some sense.

Whereas her peers constantly attack him over fictitious crimes and other nonsense, Gabbard has kept her criticism more leveled. During the podcast Monday, for instance, she panned the president for keeping troops in Afghanistan and involving America in Saudi Arabia’s wars.

“Trump was somebody who during his campaign talked a lot about ending the stupid wars, talked about going after Saudi Arabia — that they’re the biggest supporters of terrorism in the world. And you know, what happened now?” she lamented.

“You look at the people he’s surrounded himself by. Some of the biggest war hawks that our country has seen. Guys like John Bolton, people like Mike Pompeo, people who’ve wanted to go to war against Iran for a very long time.”

Agree or disagree with her points, at least they were somewhat rooted in reality.

The most “offensive” remarks she made Monday — “offensive” to the media, that is — were the ones she made about the media-driven censorship of non-establishment voices on social media.

“There’s just been news recently about Facebook banning certain individuals . . . because of their speech,” she said. “They disagree with the speech they’re using or the ideas they’re pushing forward. Unchecked, First Amendment rights going out the window.”

Rogan responded with a devil’s advocate argument, asking, “The argument is [the First Amendment] doesn’t apply because they’re a private company, right?”

“Yes, but they re trying to get the best of both worlds,” Gabbard rightly noted. “The fact that they are claiming to say, ‘Hey, this is a free space for open communication for everyone’ while at the same time saying ‘You know, what Joe, I don’t like what you’re saying about this, so we’re going to ban you and whoever your friends are from this conversation’ — I think that’s a big problem.”

Listen:

Is this willingness to buck the establishment enough to earn her some cross-party votes? Maybe, though according to some critics it’d help if she’d come out more forcefully against the “progressive nutjobs” who’ve taken over her party and corrupted it from bottom to top.
