600-pound alligator euthanized after busting through Florida home’s fence

A trapper was forced to euthanize a 600-pound alligator that busted through a fence of a Miami home Friday.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission initially tried to catch the 11-foot reptile, The Associated Press reported Monday. The alligator, however, would stop and move every so often.

“We watched that gator go through that fence like nothing,” Miami Fire Rescue spokesman Ignatius Carroll Jr. said, according to the Miami Herald.

The animal was also slippery from the rain, making it difficult for a trapper to get a good grip with a rope, The AP reported. The trapper eventually decided to put the alligator down.

Officials alerted residents in the area of the break in around 11 p.m. Friday, according to the Herald.

This is not the first incident where an alligator wandered into a public area. A 15-foot gator, known as Chubs, was seen strolling on a Palmetto, Florida, golf course in October 2018.

Alligators inhabit all of Florida’s 67 counties, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
