President Trump is not backing down on his criticism of Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., in the face of major push back from Democrats and their media allies, who claim the Somali refugee is facing death threats as a result of the president calling attention to her insulting assessment of the 9/11 terrorist attack on the United States.
Speaking to a reporter in her home state, where he was attending a Tax Day round table, Trump was asked about a tweet that’s come under fire and he said Omar, one of the first two Muslim women to be elected to Congress, was “disrespectful to this country.”
“She’s been very disrespectful to this country,” he said during an interview with local news affiliate KSTP. “She’s been very disrespectful, frankly, to Israel. She’s somebody that doesn’t really understand life. Real life. What it’s all about.”
“It’s unfortunate,” Trump added. “She’s got a way about her that’s very, very bad for our country, I think. I think she’s extremely unpatriotic and extremely disrespectful to our country.
President Trump was also asked about what the redacted Mueller report that’s being released on Thursday may show.
“Well, it shows that its a total phony,” he said. I don’t have to say that — you just take a look at the conclusion.”
Trump went on to say of the release is “good,” adding that “there can’t be anything there because there was no crime.”
After Rep. Omar dismissed the 9/11 attack by Islamic extremists as “some people did something,” the president shared a video on social media that opens with her remark, followed by scenes from that fateful day, with Trump adding the caption, in all caps, “We will never forget.”
Speaker Nancy Pelosi, after being prompted by the radical progressive wing of her caucus, specifically Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., the other Muslim women elected in November, issued a statement on Sunday calling on Trump to take the tweet down.
Never mind that this call came after several days and more than 10 million views.
Tlaib, who launched her congressional career by calling trump a “motherf–ker” her first week in office, attacked party leadership Saturday for not being more supportive of Omar.
Lost in the mix for those who rushed to defend Omar is that the “something” she so callously referred to resulted in the loss of nearly 3,000 lives — most of these deaths being Americans.
