New Gingrich is amazed by the “level of ignorance” displayed by Democrats.
The former Republican House Speaker spoke to Fox News host Laura Ingraham about the “deep, vitriolic hatred” the left has toward President Donald Trump and anyone who is connected with him, spending a moment on Rep. Maxine Waters and her performance during a committee hearing with lawmakers on Capitol Hill Tuesday.
“Literally these people are being brainwashed into a left-wing, theological position,” Gingrich said on “The Ingraham Angle” on Tuesday. “It’s a frenzy.”
Ingraham remarked on how Trump’s Cabinet members have “had really successful lives, comfortable lives” but still choose to step into Washington, D.C. where they are then “defamed, they are maligned, they’re called traitors, treasonous, white nationalists, racist, xenophobe.”
“They still show up to work everyday and they still fight for this country,” she added denouncing the attacks based simply on their association with Trump. “It’s not Congressional oversight, Newt, is it?”
“No, no, no. This is closer to an inquisition,” Gingrich replied, noting a moment in Tuesday’s House Appropriations Committee and Financial Services Committee hearing in which Waters and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin got into a battle of wills.
“I love the moment today with Congresswoman Waters going after Secretary Mnuchin, and Mnuchin explaining he wasn’t afraid of being fired,” Gingrich recounted. “I don’t think secretary, Congresswoman Waters has any idea how wealthy Mnuchin is.”
“That would be the best thing that ever happened to him. Probably he goes back to New York,” Ingraham laughed.
“I mean, Waters might be worried about getting fired because she has no visible means of getting support. But Mnuchin will be fine,” Gingrich said.
The Treasury Secretary got into a testy exchange with the California Democrat after a three-hour testimony on Tuesday when they battled over his departure to another, pre-planned meeting with a foreign official. He also declared that he was not worried about being fired if he releases the president’s tax returns to congressional Democrats.
“I’m not afraid of being fired at all,” he told the House Financial Services Chairwoman. “Having said that, I’ve said we will follow the law.”
.@RepMaxineWaters: “You are basically saying, you will follow the law and you are not afraid that you will be fired if in fact you release the returns.”

Mnuchin was appearing in the wake of the Democrats’ political attack against the president as House Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal has requested Trump’s personal and some business tax returns from the last six years.
“It’s amazing to watch the level of ignorance that the Democrats are now displaying,” Gingrich told Ingraham on Tuesday.
“They’re combining two factors: They’re really ignorant and they believe in really weird ideas,” he concluded.
