DREAMER sounds off on Trump’s message ‘we can’t take you … our country is full’

A DACA recipient praised President Donald Trump’s efforts to secure the southern U.S. border while slamming Democrats who refuse to “come to the table” on the issue of immigration.

Hilario Yanez, a “Dreamer” who was brought to the U.S. from Mexico at the age of one, told “Fox & Friends” Saturday that the president has done an “unbelievable” job in raising awareness of the crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border and accused Democrats of refusing to face the facts.

“There’s a humanitarian crisis happening that’s causing a border security crisis that is driven by a policy crisis,” the recipient of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program said.

“Congress must act and work with the president to fix this once and for all and, unfortunately, they seem to ignore this issue,” he said, adding that the current situation is a “perfect opportunity” to fix border security in exchange for a “Dreamers” solution.

Yanez came to Trump’s defense on the DACA issue, saying he has shown the community “compassion” while proposing solutions to fix the Obama-era policy which allowed a temporary period of deferred action from deportation for those who were illegally brought to the U.S. as children.

He also dismissed claims by the left that Trump is anti-immigrant.

“He is for legal immigration and I think he cares very much so for the American people. And I think he wants to fix this broken immigration problem,” Yanez explained. “But unfortunately, Congress and Democrats don’t want to work with him and it’s sad because it’s putting the American people and also the Dreamers in jeopardy.”

The president spoke at a border security roundtable in California on Friday, emphasizing the “big emergency” that is continuing to escalate at the border.

“I’m totally willing to close the border,” he said, “but Mexico over the last four days they have done more than they have ever done… They’re apprehending people now by the thousands and bringing them back to their countries, bringing them back to where they came from.”

Trump also discussed what “our new statement” is on Friday.

“The system is full. We can’t take you anymore. Whether it’s asylum, whether it’s anything you want, it’s illegal migration, we can’t take you anymore,” he said. “Our country is full, our area’s full, the sector is full. We can’t take you anymore, I’m sorry, can’t happen. So turn around, that’s the way it is.”

Back in January amid the partial government shutdown, the president had proposed a deal to congressional Democrats, offering temporary protections for approximately 700,000 “Dreamers” in exchange for $5.7 billion in funding for the border wall. Democrats refused to budge.

Yanez was not surprised that a recent poll showed Hispanic support for the president is at 50 percent and growing.

“I’m surprised it’s not at 100 percent,” he said.

“The Hispanic community values faith, family and freedom. There is no other president or other party fighting for these values. When I look at the Democratic Party, they’re against these values. They proudly and loudly lead on abortion, removing God from our lives and also bringing socialism to our country,” he added.

He again reiterated his support for Trump and the Republican Party for its efforts to secure the border, protect Americans and also compassionately deal with immigrants.

“We’re trying to do everything in our power, we’re just asking Democrats to come to the table and help, and work with this president,” he said.
