President Trump announced he “likes positive things” and will therefore be skipping the White House Correspondents’ Dinner for the third consecutive year.
The president spoke with reporters outside of the White House about his alternate plans as he headed out for his trip to the U.S.-Mexico border on Friday.

“I’m going to hold a rally,” Trump responded to a question about whether he will be attending this year’s dinner in Washington later this month
“Yeah, because the dinner is so boring and so negative that we’re going to hold a very positive rally,” he said about the annual gathering of journalists, prominent political names and celebrities.
A location for Trump’s rally has not been determined, the president said but noted that there are several possibilities.
“We haven’t determined,” he said. “We have about three sites. Everybody wants it. It’ll be a big one.”
Trump held a rally in Michigan as last year’s dinner played out with so-called entertainment by comedian Michelle Wolf, who not only slammed the president and his administration, but also mocked White House press secretary Sarah Sanders who attended the event.
Wolf was widely criticized for her remarks and Sanders was praised by many for her professional composure during the classless performance.

Trump explained to reporters Friday that he will be opting out of attending the WHCA dinner again because it is “too negative.”
“I like positive things,” he said.
This year’s dinner will be held on April 27 and is set to feature writer and historian Ron Chernow, a Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer of American presidents. Wolf called out the WHCA as “cowards” when the announcement was made to steer clear of using a comedian again at the dinner.
The @whca are cowards. The media is complicit. And I couldn’t be prouder. https://t.co/OOIFGuZ731

WHCA President Olivier Knox reacted to Trump’s announced plans on Friday.
“We’re looking forward to an enjoyable evening of celebrating the First Amendment and great journalists past, present, and future,” Knox told The Hill.
Trump’s plans to hold a rally and again skip the annual gathering stirred up plenty of reaction on Twitter.
