Lou Dobbs reiterated President Trump’s assessment of the southern US border crisis as an “invasion” and his guest argued that the president’s supporters are “getting raped” by the expense of dealing with it.

The host of “Lou Dobbs Tonight” discussed the border situation on his Fox Business Network show on Thursday, speaking with former New York lieutenant governor Betsy McCaughey who called out the “asylum scammers” at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Trump renewed previous threats to shut down the southern border amid reports that immigration enforcement has reached a crisis level. U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan announced that the “breaking point” has arrived at the border during a press conference on Wednesday.

The president’s supporters “are not being fooled by all this rhetoric, all this fake sympathy for the asylum scammers at the southern border either,” McCaughey said after a discussion with Dobbs on Trump’s rally in Michigan on Thursday.

“Believe me, most Americans know they are getting raped by all of the expense of this, and they are glad this president is going to solve this problem, and he ought to close the border tomorrow,” she added.

“He ought to close it right away, because he has the leverage,” she said, referring to the end of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation and his report finding no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia during the 2016 election.

“He should, and he said he would, he might, but the fact is, we have a border right now with people pouring across it,” Dobbs interjected. “He’s called it an invasion, it is.”

McCaughey admitted she was “amazed the Democrats have the nerve to express sympathy” for the asylum-seekers at the border.

“We won’t tolerate people scamming their way into college, but these people are scamming their way into the country,” she said.

Speaking on Trump’s rally, Dobbs cited the “vindication” of the president after what the left has put him through for two years.

“He continues these rallies with the American people, for all the time that his base, his supporters have been put through holy hell by these ignorant, deceptive, politically corrupt radical Dems,” Dobbs said in a segment captioned “Vindication Celebration.”

“It is time for payback, and his supporters deserve this, because it’s vindication,” he added.

Trump referred to the border issue frequently during his more than one-hour speech in Grand Rapids on Thursday.

“If you look at the border, if you look at the hundreds of thousands of people that are invading, or at least trying to invade our country, you would know that we need it and we’re building it,” Trump said of the wall.

McAleenan had noted the “unprecedented humanitarian border security crisis all along our southwest border” during Wednesday’s press conference where he announced that the CBP would begin the “direct release” of migrants due to overcrowding.

“That is not something we want to do,” he said. “It is something we have to do given the overcrowding in our facilities.”

His remarks came as CBP reported that March was on track to become “the highest month” for border apprehensions in over a decade.

New numbers released by the agency showed that a staggering 3,700 people were apprehended along the southwest border – and that was just in one day – making it what CBP called the “largest single day total in more than a decade.”

The president vetoed a Democrat-backed measure to cancel his national emergency declaration and House Democrats failed to override that veto on Tuesday. And “Christmas came early this week” as Donald Trump Jr. noted, celebrating the Pentagon’s authorization of $1 billion of new border wall funding.

“Changes in the law and closing the vulnerabilities in our legal framework is the only way that this flow is going to be reduced,” McAleenan said at the press conference.
