The left continues to maintain that President Trump is just wrong about an emergency at the southern U.S. border but the latest numbers from U.S. Customs and Border Protection should riddle their narrative with some more holes.
New numbers released by the agency showed that a staggering 3,700 people were apprehended along the southwest border – and that was just on Tuesday.

CBP called it the “largest single day total in more than a decade” in a tweet Tuesday.
Projecting the numbers for the rest of 2019 based on the astonishing numbers for March paint an even more alarming picture, with CBP estimating 100,000 people will cross the border in the year and that number includes 35,000 children.
COO Sanders: If you look at our 21-day averages for the month of March, we are on track for 100,000 people to cross the border. Of those 100,000, 58,000 are family units and 9,000 are unaccompanied children. In total, of that 100,000, roughly 35,000 will be children. pic.twitter.com/VMVAjAwbg9

.: We are now on pace for over 100,000 apprehensions and encounters with migrants—with 90% (90,000) crossing the border illegally between ports of entry. March will be the highest month in over a decade. pic.twitter.com/Nmuq00asZY

The president vetoed a Democrat-backed measure to cancel his national emergency declaration and House Democrats failed to override that veto on Tuesday. And “Christmas came early this week” as Donald Trump Jr. noted, celebrating the Pentagon’s authorization of $1 billion of new border wall funding.
Just two weeks ago, CBP San Diego posted videos showing just what agents are facing while Democrats dismiss their appeals and denounce Trump for fear-mongering. One video, from March 14 showed 52 Central American migrants who illegally came through a fence in Imperial Beach, California. Following a “2-hour foot chase,” they were apprehended and actually claimed asylum.
Video captured 3/14 shows an illegal crossing of Central American migrants. None of the 52 people surrendered to the #USBP agent on the beach. All 52 people were eventually arrested after a 2 hour foot chase with multiple agents. Once in custody, everyone claimed asylum. #CBP pic.twitter.com/0gxH2lpNQc

Another video showed a human smuggler dropping two young girls over the border behind razor wire and as agents moved to respond, 10 others cut through illegally and were not captured.
Last night, a human smuggler dropped two young Salvadoran girls, 6 and 9, from the aging border barrier behind concertina wire. As agents vacated their patrol positions in response, 10 people crossed illegally nearby. They eluded capture. #USBP #CBP #BORDER #BORDERSECURITY pic.twitter.com/t2QNmQLpoK

Earlier this month, more than 700 people were apprehended by Border Patrol in El Paso, Texas – the area where former Rep. Robert “Beto” O’Rourke said should have no fencing at all.

CBP broke down the demographics of those being apprehended at the border, noting that “up until 2011, 90% of the people that came across the border were single adults” and that 90 percent were from Mexico in 2008.
COO Sanders: In 2008, roughly 90% of the individuals that came across the border were from Mexico. Up until 2011, 90% of the people that came across the border were single adults. That’s a very different demographic to what we are seeing today. pic.twitter.com/blUDZlhALs

But now those crossing the southern border into the U.S. illegally are mostly family units and unaccompanied children.
COO Sanders: We currently have 12,000 people in custody at Border Patrol stations and Ports of Entry. Of those 12,000 people, roughly 7,000 are family units and 1,300 are unaccompanied children.

Border Patrol continues to echo the president’s warnings that they are experiencing a “humanitarian crisis” at the southern border that is “overwhelming.”
COO Sanders: We are experiencing a humanitarian crisis along the southern border. It is overwhelming, I don’t know another way to describe it. Some hard facts with regards to what is happening along the border.
— CBP (@CBP) March 26, 2019
.@CBP_McAleenan: This stark and increasing shift to more vulnerable populations, combined with the overwhelming numbers, and inadequate capacity to detain families and children at ICE and HHS, respectively, has created a humanitarian crisis.

At a Customs and Border Protection press conference with Commissioner Kevin K. McAleenan on Wednesday in El Paso, the impact of the staggering increase in illegal crossings was discussed.
.@CBP_McAleenan: CBP is facing an unprecedented humanitarian and border security crisis all along our Southwest Border—and nowhere has that crisis manifested more acutely than here in El Paso Sector. WATCH: https://t.co/RsEGMjFeZZ

“Changes in the law and closing the vulnerabilities in our legal framework is the only way that this flow is going to be reduced,” McAleenan said.
