Virginia Governor Ralph Northam prompted an outcry after appearing to suggest that a baby, after being born, might still be murdered “if that’s what the mother…desired.”
The horrific remarks came as the Democratic governor defended a state bill allowing a woman to abort an unborn child until the moment the baby is born.
The Repeal Act, introduced by state Democrats this month, was debated in the first subcommittee hearing on Monday as Democratic delegate Kathy Tran, the chief sponsor of the bill, explained the new bill would remove requirements that second and third-trimester abortions can only be performed when the mother’s life is in danger.
Speaking on WTOP’s “Ask The Governor” on Wednesday, Northam was asked if he supported the bill and about Tran’s comment that the proposed legislation would allow an abortion even as a woman is going into labor.
It went from a fetus to an infant so fast hardly anyone noticed. https://t.co/pEhYLUuCK8

“This is why decisions such as this should be made by providers, physicians, and the mothers and fathers that are involved,” Northam said. “When we talk about third-trimester abortions, these are done with the consent of obviously the mother, with the consent of the physician — more than one physician, by the way — and it’s done in cases where there may be severe deformities. There may be a fetus that’s non-viable.”
But the bill would actually remove the requirement that three physicians have to agree that the late-term abortion is necessary. The governor was either not being up front about the legislation or was ignorant of the changes, but he plowed on with his shocking comments.
“If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen,” he continued. “The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.”
If I’m hearing this correctly, the Governor of Virginia is saying that even after birth a decision would be made about the life of the baby?? https://t.co/mtxiqnCibt

Northam dismissed the outcry over the bill as “really blown out of proportion.”
Northam also lied about the substance of the bill, claiming that late-term abortions would require the consent of more than one physician. In fact, the bill erases that requirement and allows just one doctor to make the decision.

Disbelief followed the governor’s remarks.
There’s really no way around this: it’s murder.

Horrifying

Am I hearing this right? Common sense would dictate that the Governor of Virginia is not trying to legalize infanticide.
But my own lying ears suggest otherwise. https://t.co/EQebSgm1Fb

“This is morally repugnant,” Senator Ben Sasse said in a scathing rebuke of on Northam’s comments.
“In just a few years pro-abortion zealots went from ‘safe, legal, and rare’ to ‘keep the newborns comfortable while the doctor debates infanticide.’ I don’t care what party you’re from — if you can’t say that it’s wrong to leave babies to die after birth, get the hell out of public office,” the Nebraska Republican said.

And while Virginia’s Democratic senators were still silent in the issue, a collective ‘Amen’ could be heard following the shots fired by Sasse.
The offices of Virginia’s senators, @timkaine and @MarkWarner, have yet to respond to my request for comment on the state Democrats’ new abortion bill in Virginia.

I’ve never seen @BenSasse more virulent. He’s right:
