Trump tries to help DACA recipients, so they ungratefully slap him in the face

Even as President Donald Trump sought to extend protections for those who fall under the DACA program, recipients responded with an ungrateful attack.

A recipient of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program had no words of thanks for the president after he offered a three-year extension for “Dreamers” in a new deal to Democrats in hopes of securing more than $5 billion in funding for a wall along the southern U.S. border and ending a month-long government shutdown.

Instead, Belen Sisa accused Trump of using “Dreamers” as “bargaining chips” during a CNN interview with Ana Cabrera on Sunday.

“I don’t know if the president is completely ignorant to history or if he has gone delusional to what happened a year ago when he ended the program himself,” Sisa said following Trump’s announced proposal Saturday.

“If he truly cared about Dreamers, if he truly cared about undocumented youth, he would not be using us as bargaining chips through his tantrum of getting a wall that makes no sense,” she added.

“It’s like lighting your house on fire and then going outside and trying to put it out yourself by blaming it on other people,” she said.

Trump delivered his compromise to Democrats in a televised White House address Saturday, proposing that protections for 700,000 immigrants who came to the country illegally as children be extended for three years, as well as extending protections for 300,000 recipients of the Temporary Protected Status program.

Trump noted that his proposals had been accepted by Democrats in the past and offered the compromise in exchange for funding the wall.

Cabrera asked Sisa on Sunday how it felt to have the government shutdown affect her personally.

“It’s horrible. It’s really disappointing and saddening to see that the person who is supposed to hold this country together is doing nothing but dividing the American people by holding immigrant youth hostage,” she replied, adding that Democrats should “absolutely not” consider Trump’s proposed plan to re-open the government.

No worry there as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi appeared to shoot down the president’s efforts even before he had delivered his remarks.

Sisa risked deportation when she was arrested after participating in a sit-in outside out Sen. Chuck Schumer’s office in December 2017.

Sisa has been arrested on other occasions as well.

Twitter users called out Cabrera, Sisa and other “Dreamers” who have criticized Trump’s offer.
