The White House refuted allegations by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that President Donald Trump risked her safety and that of others when he made her travel plans public.
Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill claimed in a statement Friday that the Democrats had planned to fly commercially after the president informed the California Democrat in a letter that her “excursion” was being “postponed” due to the government shutdown.
After President Trump revoked the use of military aircraft to travel to Afghanistan, the delegation was prepared to fly commercially to proceed with this vital trip to meet with our commanders and troops on the front lines.

Trump went on to suggest in his letter to Pelosi on Thursday that “if you would like to make your journey by flying commercial, that would certainly be your prerogative.”
According to Hammill, that was exactly what the delegation planned to do but the administration killed those plans by leaking out the information.
In the middle of the night, State Dept’s Diplomatic Security Service provided an updated threat assessment detailing that the President announcing this sensitive travel had significantly increased danger to the delegation & to troops, security, & other officials supporting trip.

And in order to secure everyone’s safety, Pelosi and the Democrats were the ones who decided to postpone the seven-day trip to Brussels, Egypt, and Afghanistan.
In light of the grave threats caused by the President’s action, the delegation has decided to postpone the trip so as not to further endanger our troops and security personnel, or the other travelers on the flights.

The White House called the claims a “flat out lie.”
“When the Speaker of the House and about 20 others from Capitol Hill decide to book their own commercial flights to Afghanistan, the world is going to find out. The idea we would leak anything that would put the safety and security of any American at risk is a flat out lie,” a senior White House official told Fox News.
One official slammed the allegations that there was a leak as “asinine.”
Meanwhile, the idea that Pelosi and the other Democrats had already planned to fly commercially at all was torched by social media users who found the reports “preposterous.”
