Rep. Nancy Pelosi hasn’t even picked up the gavel yet as House Speaker but she has already caused a stir by not ruling out that a sitting president can be indicted.
The California Democrat believes the issue is “open to discussion,” responding to a question by NBC’s Savannah Guthrie.
In a“Today” show interview that aired Thursday, Guthrie asked the presumptive Speaker if she thought Special Counsel Robert Meller should “honor and observe the Department of Justice guidance that states a sitting president cannot be indicted?”
“I do not think that that is conclusive. No, I do not,” Pelosi replied.
“So you think it’s possible that Special Counsel Mueller could legally indict a sitting president?” Guthrie followed up.
Pelosi circled around the question for a moment, talking about waiting on Mueller’s findings in the ongoing investigation that was supposed to be focused on alleged Russian meddling in the U.S. 2016 election.
“That is not the law,” Pelosi responded. “Everything indicates that a president can be indicted after he is no longer president of the United States.”
“A president who’s in office? Could Robert Mueller come back and say I’m seeking an indictment?” Guthrie asked.
“I think that is an open discussion,” the lawmaker replied. “I think that’s an open discussion in terms of the law.”
Pelosi also admitted that pursuing at attempt to impeach President Donald Trump would prove to be divisive for the nation.
“We’ll have to see what happens with the Mueller report,” Pelosi said. “We shouldn’t be impeaching for a political reason, and we shouldn’t avoid impeachment for a political reason.”
The Democrat lawmaker ignited stinging backlash with her insulting jab at Trump’s faith during another part of the interview when she dismissed criticism about her luxury vacation in Hawaii where she purportedly “observed the Christmas holiday” while Trump remained at the White House during the shutdown.
Pelosi’s remarks sparked heated reactions on Twitter where the Democrat was blasted for continuing to play politics in order to achieve a “pipe dream” of impeaching Trump.
Today, we find a haggard old Nancy Pelosi, made rich by formatting deals for her husbands company, trying to gather enough votes to impeach our legally elected President with fake news BS and other liberal garbage. Won’t work Nancy.

It’s all a waste of time. Is this really what folks elected the new house to do? If they don’t have the senate impeachment does nothing. Just ask Bill Clinton.

Going to waste time getting an impeachment. Impeachment is bringing of charges, the Senate has to convict to remove a President (which it’s never done). No way the GOP Senate removes Trump. It’s a waste of resources.

not using politics as a reason sounds great. BUT, in practice that is not the likely way this is going to play out. This is going to be all about the politics.

Impeachment is a pipe dream. It will never succeed.

Maybe she ought to shake the sand out of her shoes after the paid vacation she awarded herself on us & worry about doing her actual job.

First thing she states on the day she is to retake the House. Liberals. If they can’t find an actual crime, just make one up. After all, other than hate and obstruction, they have no actual governing policy.
