Star Parker praises Trump on SNAP: Guys on food stamps sitting around ‘watching porn,’ not working

Conservative political activist, Star Parker, thinks some people receiving government assistance need to get out and look for work instead of watching pornography all day.

The nationally syndicated columnist and founder and president of Center for Urban Renewal and Education argued that recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) have not had any incentive to get off the program and get jobs.

With benefits distributed to recipients through an EBT card much like a debit card, “the shame” of receiving government assistance is no longer an issue, Parker said on “Fox & Friends” on Wednesday.

In the past, vouchers for food stamps “had this stigma about them, so people wouldn’t want to be on, even if they qualify,” she said.

Parker commended efforts by President Donald Trump’s administration to tighten the requirements, making it mandatory that SNAP recipients have to find work within three months.

“Remember, most of our safety net programs are…for you to get back on your feet,” Parker explained.

“What the Trump Administration is saying is, come on guys, the economy’s doing good. Why are you still sitting around? People here in Washington … what they’re calling them now are watchers,” she said, citing studies like those conducted by American Enterprise Institute.’

“These guys are not working. They’re watching. They’re watching porn, they’re watching TV, they’re watching women, they’re watching everything, but they’re not working,” Parker continued. “And this is what this initiative is attempting to do, is to get them back into their own lives so that they can prosper.”

The food assistance program is run by the Agriculture Department and USDA regulations allow states to waive the work requirement for SNAP recipients based on the unemployment rate for the area.

The number of eligible participants in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program has dropped dramatically, to about 40 million in 2018. This was a significant change from the nearly 48 million recipients under former President Barack Obama in 2013 – costing American taxpayers nearly $80 billion. Trump touted the drop in remarks last year, claiming his administration has seen more than 3.5 million people come off government assistance.

A vocal supporter of the president, Parker penned recent op-ed pieces applauding Trump’s use of American capitalism to help the poor.

“Let’s hope the big government Democrats about to take over Congress don’t mess up President Trump’s commitment to using American capitalism to lift up the poor,” she wrote in Townhall Wednesday.

She also wrote about supporting Trump’s call for a border wall while calling out the Democrats opposed to the plan as the “Grinch.”

“Some very confused people want to claim this wall is about racism. That conclusion is only possible if you think defending our nation and the core principles that make it free is racist,” Parker wrote in a piece published by The Winchester Star. “Let’s hope President Trump prevails over the Democratic Grinch and succeeds in delivering this important Christmas present to the American people.”
