Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez couldn’t avoid her political digs for even one day as she took the occasion of Christmas to spread immigration lies.
The New York Democratic socialist wished a “Merry Christmas” to her Twitter followers on Tuesday and used the Nativity story to comment on “refugee babies in mangers.”
Joy to the World!
Merry Christmas everyone – here’s to a holiday filled with happiness, family, and love for all people. ?(Including refugee babies in mangers + their parents.)
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@Ocasio2018) December 25, 2018
For those who would dare to correct her with the facts, Ocasio-Cortez teed up a follow-up tweet linking to an article asserting that the baby Jesus along with Mary and Joseph were actually refugees.
For all the anti-immigrant pundits uncomfortable with and denying that Christ’s family were refugees, too: https://t.co/lLQCupyG3N

But facts don’t lie and the truth in the Nativity story is that Mary and Joseph were never referred to as refugees. In fact, the Bible in the Gospel of Luke explains how a pregnant Mary traveled to Bethlehem with her husband Joseph like so many other citizens so that he could be counted in a census ordered by Caesar Augustus. When the overcrowded city offered no spare rooms for the couple to stay in overnight, they were forced to take shelter in a stable where Jesus was born.
Other Gospel accounts tell the story of the new family’s escape to Egypt for safety after King Herod of Judea ordered the murder of every child under the age of two. Joseph was instructed by an angel to return with his family once Herod had died.
They weren’t even refugees they were just Roman citizens traveling to another part of Rome. pic.twitter.com/xR2zNXE9nh

The attempt by Ocasio-Cortez to score some political points on an important holiday was not received well on Twitter where many could not let her tweet go unchallenged.
Turning Point USA’s Charlie Kirk set the 29-year-old lawmaker straight.
I’m really trying to stay away from politics today, but I will not let you misrepresent the Gospel on this holy day
Joseph and Mary were LEGAL citizens under King Herod governed under the Roman Empire – they traveled to Bethlehem as part of a census, a legal counting of people https://t.co/7ug4LQo8T8

Former deputy assistant to the president, Sebastian Gorka, suggested Ocasio-Cortez read her Bible and “try” facts.
You really should read the Bible @Ocasio2018.
Mother Mary and St. Joseph were NOT refugees.
In fact, by traveling to The Town of King David as part of the Roman census, they were obeying national laws.
Exactly the opposite of a refugee or an Illegal Alien.
Facts: TRY THEM. https://t.co/9aDRyukdp9

Townhall columnist Derek Hunter also gave the New York Democrat a reality check.
Mary and Joseph weren’t refugees, moron. They were on their way to pay their taxes, as mandated by Rome. You’re now Rome, by the way. https://t.co/b2lCsQcy78

The Daily Wire’s Ryan Saavedra slammed her use of Christmas “to incite political division” and blasted her as “a truly sick person.”
Dumb-dumb still doesn’t understand why people are mad at her.
It’s not about being right or wrong.
It’s the fact that she’s using Christmas, the most celebrated religious holiday in the world, to incite political division and score points.
Ocasio-Cortez is a truly sick person. https://t.co/5ptJVWhMAl

Ocasio-Cortez earned a round of rebukes last month when she made another eyebrow-raising remark, comparing members of the Central American migrant caravan which was then approaching the U.S. border to Jews fleeing Nazi Germany during the Holocaust. She also managed to include victims of genocide in Rwanda and those fleeing Syria in its ongoing civil war.
Twitter users poured out to school Ocasio-Cortez for her indefensible Christmas tweets on Tuesday.
You can’t even politicize Christmas correctly
— Jay Cub (@RealJayCub) December 25, 2018
Wow, way to appropriate a religion because you obviously don’t know the story of Christmas. Census. Traveling to register for taxes….

Good grief.. Cortez needs to keep her mouth shut, the more she opens it, the more stupid falls out.

Went to pay their taxes, not to demand free stuff from the government. Weren’t poor – would have paid for a room, but hotel was booked. Then had enough dough to rent/buy a house for a couple years, and travel to Egypt, and back again. Egypt offered no food stamps or healthcare.
— Bill Stack (@3BronzeStar) December 26, 2018
There is no evidence they were acting illegally or violating the borders of another country by moving to Egypt, temporarily. Its bizarre to try to make Mary & Joseph the poster family for people who hate anything holy, to be honest.
A modern day liberal woman would abort Jesus.— jkelly (@totaljoyk) December 26, 2018
Might as well say “AOC reminds her followers that 1+1=3”
— John Hill (@StandWithAZ) December 25, 2018
Actually Christ was not a refugee but hey #agenda
