Football player brings tears to National Signing Day, announces his college pick in most inspirational way

A South Carolina football player announced his college choice in a unique way that warmed the hearts of many.

Hanahan football player Cooper Dawson decided to forego the usual spectacle of Signing Day by handling the announcement in an inspirational way, paying tribute to his friend Kingsley Feinman in the process, WCIV reported.

Dawson, who’s been recovering from a torn ACL ligament in his knee, said he learned that “the only disability is a bad attitude” from Feinman while the two hung out over the summer. Feinman has cerebral palsy.

“I’ve got a messed up leg. I’m going to miss my senior year. But he’s got this cerebral palsy and it affects him greatly, but he goes around with a positive attitude,” Dawson said. “If I can resemble that, it’ll be alright.”

The Hanahan High School student opted to share the story of their friendship as he told those gathered about why Feinman was by his side for the reveal. Then, leaning over, Dawson whispered his college pick into Feinman’s ear.

“He’s going to Syracuse,” Feinman announced as cheers and applause erupted from the crowd.

Feinman did admit that he had hoped Dawons would choose UCLA because “he’s a big Trojan fan,” but Dawson said he “felt the love” from Syracuse in upstate New York.

Syracuse head coach Dino Babers was not surprised by the gesture from Dawson, “an outstanding young man” who was “very gracious” in what he did.

“It just kind of represents the people that we are trying to look to come up here and to join us in our community,” he said.

Meanwhile, Feinman expressed his gratitude to his friend after the announcement.

“It means a whole lot to me,” he told Dawson. “I’m glad to be a part of this day.

“Thank you for including me,” he added.

“No problem, buddy,” Dawson replied.
