As 2018 comes to a close, Fox News Channel presented a compilation of some of the “lowlights” of the year for America’s media.
Howard Kurtz, host of Fox News’s “Media Buzz,” and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabaee joined Fox News’ Laura Ingraham on “The Angle” to reflect on the year’s worst media moments.
Ingraham kicked off the montage with a look at the “media’s once-warm embrace of a man who is now not on the top of the invite list,” referring to the media obsession with Michael Avenatti.
The attorney who seemed to be a cable news fixture in 2018, representing porn star Stormy Daniels in a lawsuit against President Donald Trump, fell out of favor after a series of controversies including an arrest on alleged domestic violence charges. But his attempt to take down Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearings by representing a witness who was soon discredited was one of the biggest “black eyes” of the media, according to Ingraham.
Another low point in 2018 for the media was journalists literally dumpster diving, going through trash in hopes of finding anything to incriminate the president. Huckabee quipped that he thought the video clip of a reporter going through garbage was actually a “tour of their newsroom.”
“That does show that if you’re willing to go through people’s trash hoping to get something negative on conservatives, you’re pretty desperate,” he said.
Another compilation of clips featured “CNN’s swear-a-thon” in which network hosts and guests repeatedly tested the boundaries of the FCC with inappropriate language.
The final media low point was presented as CNN’s Don Lemon declared in October that white men were the biggest terror threat to the nation.

“I’m guilty as charged. I’m an American white man,” Huckabee responded after watching the clip of Lemon’s assessment, adding that he found Lemon’s tone of attempted authority to be “beyond amusing.”
Mediaite offered up a year-end roundup of sorts as well, with Tommy Christopher’s dozen media moments “which stuck with me throughout the year for a variety of reasons.”
Of course, the clips were decidedly anti-Trump, ranging from comments the president made to gaffes by his supporters, including White House counselor Kellyanne Conway’s slip of the tongue when she called her boss the “Commander of cheese.”

Christopher rounded out his baker’s dozen with an old clip of Conway singing.
Kellyanne Conway trashes @Ocasio2018 as “29-year-old congresswoman who doesn’t seem to know much about anything.”

“I dug up this 1998 clip of Conway at about the same age. I don’t know if this qualifies as a ‘favorite,’ exactly, but there’s more cringeworthiness packed into these two minutes than in every episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm ever,” he wrote.
