Dem senator lets ‘B.S.’ word fly on live TV, explodes at notion her Party could be blamed for possible shutdown

Sen. Mazie Hirono could hardly contain her anger at President Donald Trump for blaming a potential government shutdown on Democrats.

The Hawaii Democrat ranted about Trump during an interview on MSNBC Thursday, failing to self-censor in a heated moment when she dropped a profanity on live television.

“It is very true that he will bring on the shutdown and he has to take responsibility for it,” Hirono told MSNBC host Chris Hayes. “Any effort on his part to blame the Democrats will be such bullsh*t, that as I said before, I would hardly be able to stand it.”

Although the Senate passed a resolution on Wednesday, it did not include funding for Trump’s proposed wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, the president said he would not sign it. Late Thursday, a stopgap funding bill in the House was passed and did include $5.7 billion for the wall. That bill heads over to the Senate Friday as the hours draw closer to expiration of the current funding bill.

But a government shutdown on Friday seems likely as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has vowed to oppose the revamped funding bill.

Trump tweeted the obvious Friday morning.

But Democrats like Hirono are assigning the full blame for a potential shutdown on the president.

“The Senate did the responsible thing [Wednesday] night by keeping government running,” Hirono told Hayes. “Passing this bill by a voice vote only to have President Trump get worked up because he’s got some right-wing loud people yelling at him on Fox News and suddenly he says ‘Well, I don’t think I’m going to sign it.’”

Schumer also took to Twitter to react, declaring that Trump was “plunging us into chaos,” citing the stock market drop, the news that Defense Secretary James Mattis was resigning and the crisis over border security.

The New York Democrat turned the tables and accused the president of throwing a temper tantrum while reminding him that he is the one who “owns” the shutdown.

The president urged Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Friday to use the “nuclear option” with the Senate filibuster so the legislation could pass with only 51 votes, instead of the usual 60.

McConnell later dropped a cryptic tweet that placed blame of a possible shutdown on Dems, but stopped short of saying he’s all in for the ‘nuclear option.’
