‘Darkly hilarious’: Trump mixes it up and promotes signing of Farm Bill in a very unconventional way

President Donald Trump found an interesting way to celebrate the signing of an $867 billion farm bill that he touted as a “bipartisan success.”

Minutes before signing the Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018, the president tweeted a video of him singing “Green Acres”with actress Megan Mullally at the 2005 Emmy Awards.

“Today’s action will help Americans transition from welfare to gainful employment, strengthening families and uplifting communities,” Trump said as he signed the five-year bill at the White House on Thursday, according to Fox News. “That was a difficult thing to get done, but the farmers wanted it done. We all wanted it done. I think, in the end, it’s going to make a lot of people very happy.”

“Millions of able-bodied working age adults continue to collect food stamps without working or even looking for work. Our goal is to move these Americans from dependence to independence and into a good paying job and rewarding career,” Trump said prior to signing the bill.

“Therefore I have directed Secretary [Sonny] Perdue to use his authority under the law to close work requirement loopholes in the food stamp program. Under this new rule, able-bodied adults with without dependents will have to work or look for work in order to receive their food stamps,” he added.

Trump signed the bill even as his administration is facing a potential government shutdown as the president has refused to sign a spending package passed by the Senate which doesn’t include funding for border security and the wall along the southern border with Mexico.

His Throwback Thursday video caught the attention of “Will and Grace” actress Mullally, his 2005 co-star, who did not seem too happy to relive the moment.

She found some sympathy from other Twitter users.

But many blasted the actress for being over-dramatic.
