Meghan McCain scolds audience for applauding harsh John Kelly criticism: ‘I think it’s weird to be clapping’

The liberal hosts of The View were all too eager to jump on the Trump-bashing bandwagon over the departure of White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, but Meghan McCain wasn’t having it.

President Trump announced Kelly’s departure over the weekend, and it made for good ‘View’ fodder on Tuesday when the hosts discussed the high turnover rate in the Trump administration.

But, the commentary went too far out of McCain’s comfort zone when co-host Sunny Hostin ripped into Kelly on a myriad of issues.

Hostin blasted the soon-to-be-former Chief of Staff for not doing more to rein in Trump’s nontraditional behavior. She also blasted him for not apologizing to Florida Rep. Frederica Wilson after Kelly became embroiled in a feud between the Congresswoman and Trump over an “insensitive” call the president was accused of making to a fallen soldier’s mother.  He also criticized Wilson for making a dedication ceremony for a slain FBI agent all about herself.

Hostin proceeded to bash the four-star Marine General and Gold Star Father for his tarnished “reputation.”

“When he disparaged a congresswoman Frederique Wilson, lied about her and then refused to apologize. That didn’t look good on his reputation,” Hostin said. She also went on to rip Kelly for endorsing the Trump administration’s practice of temporarily separating illegal immigrant parents from their children to help ensure they are not being smuggled in by human traffickers.

Her comments drew applause from the audience, but McCain wasn’t having it.

“I think it’s weird to be clapping,” McCain said and turned to the audience. “Whatever you think about his politics, he lost his son in combat for freedom, and clapping in that way, again, your call.  Everyone can interpret him differently.

“Some things that precede politics and losing a son and being part of a Gold Star family is one of those things.”
