Stormy turns on Avenatti, drops bomb about Trump lawsuit that could spell more trouble for embattled lawyer

Karma is boomeranging bigly on Michael Avenatti, the lawyer for porn star Stormy Daniels, whose claim to fame is an alleged one-night stand with Donald Trump in 2006.

In bombshell revelations, Daniels accused Avenatti of filing a defamation lawsuit against President Trump against her wishes — an ethical violation and legal malpractice for which Avenatti could be sanctioned.

Stormy also claims that Avenatti raised a windfall of cash through a crowdfunding account he launched using her name without her permission, the Daily Beast reported.

She further claims that her opportunistic “Creepy Porn Lawyer” refused to tell her how the money was spent, before launching a second crowdfund account without her knowledge.

Porn star Stormy Daniels has accused her lawyer, Michael Avenatti, of legal malpractice.

In a statement, Stormy Daniels laid out a damning case against Avenatti, the Trump-hating lawyer elevated by CNN and MSNBC as a prop with which to attack President Trump:

“For months I’ve asked Michael Avenatti to give me accounting information about the fund my supporters so generously donated to for my safety and legal defense. He has repeatedly ignored those requests.

Days ago I demanded again, repeatedly, that he tell me how the money was being spent and how much was left.

Instead of answering me, without my permission or even my knowledge, Michael launched another crowdfunding campaign to raise money on my behalf. I learned about it on Twitter.”

Legal experts said Avenatti could be in serious trouble if any of Stormy Daniels’ allegations are true.

Former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti, a CNN legal analysts, remarked on Twitter: “If true, that is highly unethical. Lawyers cannot ethically file a case on a client’s behalf without first obtaining the client’s informed consent to do so.”

NYU Law School professor Stephen Gillers, an expert on legal ethics, agreed.

“If he filed the case with her name when it was clear that she told him not to, then he could be sued for that,” Gillers told the Daily Beast. “He could be sued for malpractice. If true, she has a malpractice case against him. If true, he would be subject to discipline, but not as serious as disbarment.”

Naturally, Avenatti denied the accusations. In a statement, he denied stealing his client’s money and callously using her.

“I am and have always been Stormy’s biggest champion. I have personally sacrificed an enormous amount of money, time and energy toward assisting her because I believe in her. I have always been an open book with Stormy as to all aspects of her cases and she knows that.

The retention agreement Stormy signed back in February provided that she would pay me $100.00 and that any and all other monies raised via a legal fund would go toward my legal fees and costs.

Instead, the vast majority of the money raised has gone toward her security expenses and similar other expenses. The most recent campaign was simply a refresh of the prior campaign, designed to help defray some of Stormy’s expenses.”

Many on Twitter couldn’t help but laugh at how Avenatti’s shameless opportunism and grifting came back to bite him — hard.

“More Avenatti shenanigans.”

“He’s in a world of trouble.”

“Tucker was right.”

As BizPac Review reported, Fox News host Tucker Carlson slammed Avenatti during an explosive on-air interview in September 2018. Tucker said he felt sorry for Daniels, an aging porn star and single mom who merely wants more money for her alleged 2006 one-night stand with Trump.

Rather than help her, Carlson said Avenatti shamelessly exploited her: “You have profited from Stormy Daniels. Tens of millions of dollars of free media, and she is working in strip clubs. You are exploiting her.”

Avenatti responded with the lamest of comebacks, saying: “This is America. If a woman wants to perform in a strip club, she does so.”
