Pelosi: ‘None of us is indispensable. But some of us are just better at our jobs than others’

Rep. Nancy Pelosi certainly doesn’t seem to suffer from a lack of self-esteem

The House Minority Leader declared she is “more of a target” for attacks because she is an “effective” woman, telling CNN’s Dana Bash that she is considered a “real threat.”

Bash introduced the interview with Pelosi as part of her series, “Badass women of Washington,” noting the move by some Democrats to oppose the California Democrat’s return to her former position in the House.

“Generally speaking, when a woman is tough, she is called a b**ch. When a man is tough, he’s called effective,” the CNN host said to Pelosi on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Sunday.

“I get some names called, because if you’re effective as a woman, then they have to undermine you because that’s a real threat,” Pelosi responded.

“So I’m probably more of a target than anybody other than somebody who runs for president,” the California Democrat added.

On the issue of opposition within her party to keep her from retaking the gavel, Pelosi is not worried.

“I have a broad base of support in the country, financially, politically, and otherwise,” she declared.

“None of us is indispensable. But some of us are just better at our jobs than others,” she added without hesitation.

More than a dozen Democrats signed a letter saying they would not support the 78-year-old who served as the first female Speaker of the House from 2007 to 2011. But the critics seem to be coming around as even Ohio Democrat Rep. Marcia Fudge said she would support her despite previous speculation that she would challenge Pelosi.

Democratic socialist from New York, Rep.-elect Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, pledged to support Pelosi as House Democrats are set to vote for their next speaker candidate this week. President Trump believes Pelosi’s opponents are wasting their time and said last week he would gladly help her get elected as Speaker of the House.

Pelosi hardly seems worried.

“For most women, frankly, you know, myself included, it is hard to say those words, I am uniquely qualified, I deserve this, I have earned this, I can do this better than anyone else,” Bash told Pelosi.

“I do this because I want women to see that you do not get pushed around,” Pelosi responded, “and you don’t run away from the fight.”
