A so-called “journalist” who works as Newsweek’s national politics correspondent suggested on Twitter this weekend that every AR-15 owner is a paranoid schizophrenic or maniacal mass murderer.
“Almost every single person I’ve ever heard of with an AR-15 has been a mass murderer. Based on Twitter sample the rest of them are scarily paranoid. Get on the right side of history,” Newsweek’s Nina Burleigh tweeted Saturday to NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch and combat vet Joe biggs.
“Get on the right side of history #gunsense,” she added.

She posted the tweet in response to something written by California Rep. Eric Swalwell, the Democrat congressman currently under fire for suggesting that the government should confiscate all weapons and nuke any gun owners who dare to stand up for their rights.
While debating on Twitter with gun owners, who warned that the mass confiscation of weaponry would likely trigger a war since it’d amount to a gross violation of the U.S. Constitution, Swalwell said explicitly that any such war would be over quickly because of the government’s nukes.

When Twitter users rightly blasted the California congressman for his extremist rhetoric, he fired back by telling them to calm down and stop being so dramatic:
“Don’t be so dramatic. No one is nuking anyone or threatening that. I’m telling you this is not the 18th Century. The argument that you would go to war with your government if an assault weapons ban was in place is ludicrous and inflames the gun debate. Which is what you want.”
It was this tweet that Burleigh responded to when she accused America’s 5+ million AR-15 owners of being trigger-happy psychopaths hellbent on committing murder sprees.
Her response earned her extensive backlash, especially since Second Amendment supporters weren’t the ones who were spouting the sort of extremist ideas an actual mass murderer might espouse.

“Diarrhea of the mouth” is putting it lightly. For some inexplicable reason, the gun control issue in particular often impels those on the left to say or write things that would be classified as “extremist rhetoric” by the media were the media truly fair and non-biased.
Because the demonstrably left-wing media agrees with gun control advocates like Burleigh and Swalwell, not to mention Parkland survivor David Hogg, this sort of extremist rhetoric is invariably tolerated. And in this case, the person extremist ideas is herself a member of the media.
But Burleigh’s rhetoric was more than just extremist — it was also ignorant.
“Anyone who’s familiar with [guns] will tell you there’s no functional difference between an AR-15 and any other semi-automatic rifle. You pull the trigger, and a projectile flies out of the barrel. Having built a few ARs myself, I have yet to be possessed by one and ordered to carry out a mass murder,” gun owner Corey Stallings opined for Louder with Crowder.
“This is the perfect illustration of the problem with lefties and the argument over boomsticks. To paraphrase the wise Walter Sobchak, the left has no frame of reference. They’re like a child who wanders into the middle of the conversation.”
His point was that AR-15s aren’t machine guns. In fact, they’re no different than the dozens of other semi-automatic weapons that’re sold in America every day. Thanks to the spread of misinformation, however, gun control advocates like Burleigh genuinely don’t know the difference.

The “public’s confusion” is right. Only “the public”, fed by credulous journalists, fail to appreciate difference between semi-automatic weapons & machine guns. The latter, for years, have been essentially impossible to buy. Only 3 crimes have been committed w/ machine guns.
