‘They didn’t age well’: Gushing media’s cringeworthy Avenatti headlines recirculate, make for Twitter gold

Following “creepy porn lawyer” Michael Avenatti’s astonishing arrest this week for felony domestic violence, a number of savvy social media users began comparing his current tribulations with the headlines the media have used before to describe him.

Take a headline from CNN published in August that reads, “Michael Avenatti calls for a fight in Iowa: ‘When they go low, I say, we hit harder.'”

Social media users found headlines such as this ironic given that his arrest Wednesday afternoon was predicated on allegations he beat an unidentified woman, leaving her face “swollen and bruised,” according to the New York Post.

“When the LAPD first responded to the call on Wednesday, Avenatti could be heard saying ‘She hit me first, This is bulls–t,’ according to TMZ, which first reported the story,” the Post reported.

“The victim ran out of the apartment building wearing sunglasses and saying on the phone, ‘I can’t believe you did this to me,’ according to the site. ‘I’m going to get a restraining order against you.'”

“Stormy Daniels’ lawyer, considering presidential run, charts path as a fighter,” reads another suspiciously ironic headline, this one from an NBC piece also published in August.

The domestic violence incident reportedly occurred after Avenatti kicked the victim out of an apartment sometime Tuesday. The victim’s identity remained unknown as of Thursday morning, though it’d been confirmed she wasn’t the creepy porn lawyer’s estranged wife, Lisa Storie-Avenatti.

After Avenatti made bail Wednesday evening, he held a press conference denying the allegations.

“I have never been physically abusive in my life nor was I last night. Any accusations to the contrary are fabricated and meant to do harm to my reputation. I look forward to being fully exonerated,” he said, ignoring his previous opposition to due process.

“I am not going to be intimidated from stopping what I am doing. I am a father to two beautiful, smart, daughters. I would never disrespect them by touching a woman inappropriately or striking a woman.”

Few on social media appear to believe Avenatti, due in  part to the braggadocious, tough-guy image he’s fostered for himself  since his rise to fame as the attorney for porn star Stormy Daniels.

“Boy, who could have figured that the short-tempered, angry guy who kept boasting about how tough he was and using metaphors about punching people would have a violent streak,” conservative commentator Jim Geraghty sarcastically wrote.

Geraghty was among those who also made sure to highlight the media’s violence-themed headlines:

But it’s not just the media’s headlines which seem tainted with a sense of violence. The lawyer’s website contains a number of inspirational self-quotes that reek of thuggery.

Example 1: “If you can’t take a punch, you don’t belong in the ring.”

Example 2: “Don’t tell me what cases you’ve won, tell me who you’ve beaten.”

It’s almost as if his whole public persona centers on him being some burly bully who believes in dominating others through punches and beatdowns.

Some have compared him to current Democrat National Committee co-chair Keith Ellison, who too has been accused of domestic violence, not that it’s affected his political career.

Because of the left’s hypocritical willingness to overlook their own team members’ bad behavior, it’s not expected that Avenatti’s bout with the law will affect his 2020 presidential ambitions.

If anything, some have sarcastically suggested that perhaps he should team up with Ellison:

The latter tweet referenced Avenatti’s assertion during Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings in September and October that all sexual assault allegations against him deserved to be believed, regardless of whether they were true or not.
