Sharp-eyed viewers of a recent episode of “The Big Bang Theory” may have caught a not-so-subtle political jab in the producer’s “vanity card” during the show’s credits.
The final credits for the CBS sitcom’s October 25 episode called on God to help on Election Day against a “fascist, hate-filled, fear-mongering, demagogic, truth-shattering, autocratic golf cheater”- though President Donald Trump was never directly named.
“I humbly beseech thee to make thy presence known on November 6th. Demonstrate your omnipotence through us as we make ink marks on little circles in curtained booths,” the message from Chuck Lorre’s Productions, one of nearly 600 other “vanity cards” the producer has placed at the end of his shows, read.
“Of course if you, in your divine wisdom, believe a fascist, hate-filled, fear-mongering, demagogic, truth-shattering, autocratic golf cheater is what we need right now, then, you know, thy will be done,” the message continued.
The vanity card appeared between the show’s finals credits and the Warner Bros. logo as noted by Media Research center contributor Rebecca Downs.
“Lorre is the creator of The Big Bang Theory and its spin-off prequel Young Sheldon. Both shows feature atheist and anti-religious commentary from Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons), making it in a way ironic that Lorre would call upon God,” NewsBusters noted.
“But if thou art inclined to more freedom, more love, more compassion, and just more of the good stuff thou hath been promoting in our hearts or our parietal lobes – either one, doesn’t really matter – I submissively ask that thy encourage voter turnout in that general direction,” the message continued. “Also God, please help Bob Mueller.”
Lorre has placed the messages at the end of his other shows, including “Grace Under Fire,” “Cybill,” Dharma & Greg,” “Mike & Molly,” “Two and a Half Men,” and “Mom.”
He has taken aim at Trump in many previous vanity cards, mocking the “Make America Great Again” slogan as “a bumper sticker for victimhood” in vanity card #541 from November 2016. The producer and writer also took a jab at “The Apprentice” ratings compared to his show “Two and a Half Men” in vanity card #559 from May 2017.
In February 2017, vanity card #551 appeared as an executive order, mentioning “mean tweet[s]” and “fake news.”
After the latest installment’s “Amen,” the vanity card went on to say:
“Oh, almost forgot, remind those who collaborate with the darkness that thou art the light, and the light is not above whipping out a little Old Testament wrath. Amen again.”
