‘How many kids do you have?’ Trump-backed candidate in key district receives sick note threatening his family

A Republican New Jersey candidate running for the U.S. House of Representatives revealed a frightening threat made against him implying his seven children could be harmed.

Jay Webber, a state assemblyman running in New Jersey’s 11th district, posted a letter telling him to “get out of politics” and mentioning his children, who have appeared with him in campaign ads along with his wife.

“You are NOT for the middle class,” the note, addressed to “Jay” stated. “Be honest.”

“You are for the top 1% and above,” it read. “Be honest.”

“You think tax cuts for top 1% is ok to EXPLODE the debt by 1.5 TRILLION and add to annual deficit is ok??” the note went on before becoming more threatening.

“What the f*** is wrong with you… you scumbag?” the typed letter said. “You BETTER hope that you don’t win! Or else. How many kids do you have… 7? Unlucky 7.”

“This is what we think of you,” it ended. “Time to get out of politics!”

Webber responded on Twitter, posting photos of the letter and a ripped up “Webber for Congress” campaign sign which were sent to his place of business, according to Politico. Law enforcement is reportedly investigating.

“Criticizing a candidate on the issues is part of politics. Threatening my children is not,” Webber tweeted on Wednesday.

The five-term state assemblyman from North Jersey is running in a highly competitive race against Democrat Mikie Sherrill, a former Navy helicopter pilot and former federal prosecutor.

According to Politico:

The voting demographics in the district have shifted so much that longtime Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen, a Republican who has represented the district for nearly a quarter-century, chose to retire rather than face his first competitive general election.

Webber’s opponent condemned the threatening letter as “appalling.”

“This is absolutely appalling,” Sherrill said in a statement. “No one who decides to run for public office should feel that, by doing so, they are putting their family in danger. I condemn this in the strongest terms and hope law enforcement determines who was behind this and holds them accountable.”

Last week, Webber’s campaign had tweeted that “the angry left is fully unhinged.”

“The angry left is fully unhinged. Maybe b/c the left’s leaders in Washington encourage violence! Don’t retaliate!” the tweet read.

President Trump has backed the New Jersey lawmaker.

“Jay will be great for New Jersey and get the job done-and I will help!” Trump tweeted about the ocnservative candidate.
