According to left-wing political commentator Wendy Osefo, the right’s newfound enthusiasm for rapper Kanye West over his fervent support of President Donald Trump makes conservatives hypocrites.
“The GOP has to decide: When is it OK for black athletes and performers to either shut up and dribble or become the beacon of hope for your party, because you can’t have it both ways,” she said Saturday evening on Fox News’ “Watters’ World.”
“I don’t remember all of this outcry when LeBron James called out the President Trump but then you guys said he should shut up and dribble.”
Earlier this year NBA star LeBron James trashed President Donald Trump, accusing him of being “someone who doesn’t understand the people.”
In response, Fox News host Laura Ingraham suggested that he ought to just “shut up and dribble,” especially given how uninformed he happens to be. “You’re great players but no one voted for you. Millions elected Trump to be their coach. So keep the political commentary to yourself or, as someone once said, shut up and dribble.”
Osefo basically argued Saturday that there’s an equivalence between him trash-talking the president and West conversely praising the president. And since conservatives now back Kanye — in contrast to how they had condemned the NBA player — they’re therefore hypocrites.
There are some key problems with her argument. Like other left-wing stars, James has vowed to never meet with the president to discuss important issues.
“I would never sit across from him,” he said in an interview with Don lemon over the summer. “I’ll sit across from Barack (Obama), though.”
West has met with the president multiple times and even managed to secure the release of a 63-year-old black woman who had been serving a life sentence for nonviolent drug-related offenses.
He’s actually been accomplishing something, whereas James has merely been spouting ignorant nonsense.
Speaking of intelligent remarks, during widely televised meeting with the president last week, West made a couple astute observations about “stop-and-frisk” laws and racism. Echoing the disgusting rhetoric of CNN host Don Lemon, however, Osefo maintained Saturday that the rapper’s meeting had been a “minstrel show.”
This sort of disgusting rhetoric did not please commentator Rob Smith, who noted, “For you to call it a minstrel show, you are doing what every other black person is doing right now to anybody who dares to espouse conservatism.”
Neither Smith nor host Jesse Watters were impressed when Osefo then began criticizing West for using profanity in the White House.
“You don’t have to use foul language when you are in the Oval Office. You should not bang on your table in the Oval Office,” she complained.
Watters replied, without getting into all the “cigar” details, with a simple but brutal reminder: “President Bill Clinton did some pretty indecent things in the Oval Office.”
Indeed, except there was nothing “pretty” about what Clinton did …
