Dem rep fires off a threat to immigration officials, warns ‘you will not be safe’ when Trump leaves office

In the war being waged by Democrats against US immigration officials, one Arizona lawmaker just fired a disturbing shot at ICE.

Rep. Ruben Gallego warned federal immigration officials carrying out “illegal” deportations that they “will not be safe” from future punishment when President Donald Trump is out of office.

“If you are a US government official and you are deporting Americans be warned,” the Arizona Democrat tweeted Thursday.

Gallego’s tweet was apparently prompted by an article in The Washington Post on Wednesday claiming the government is denying passports to Hispanics suspected of having fake birth certificates but who are U.S. citizens. This practice was in effect before Trump took office, with both the George W. Bush and Barack Obama administrations denying passports under the policy.

“When the worm turns you will not be safe because you were just following orders. You do not have to take part in illegal acts ordered by this President’s administration,” Gallego warned, escalating rhetoric by the left calling for confronting the administration on immigration policies.

“It should be frightening to every American that a sitting member of Congress would threaten the safety of any person and their family, and incite the public to take acts of violence against them, let alone the lives of those whose job it is to protect us and keep us safe,” Chris Crane, the president of the National ICE Council, said in a statement, according to Fox News.

In a statement to Fox News, Gallego attempted to clarify his remarks but essentially delivered the same message.

“Government officials who violate the law or the constitution will not be immune to legal consequences,” he said Thursday. “They will eventually be held accountable for their actions, even if the Trump administration is refusing to do so.”

The Arizona Congressional District 7 Representative, who won his second term in the Democratic primary on Tuesday by 50 percentage points and faces no GOP rival heading into November elections, has been an outspoken critic of the president.

State Department spokeswoman, Heather Nauert, slammed the Washington Post report in a statement to Fox News on Thursday, pointing to a decline in passport denials under the Trump administration.

“The facts don’t back up the Washington Post’s reporting. This is an irresponsible attempt to create division and stoke fear among American citizens while attempting to inflame tensions over immigration,” she said. “Under the Trump Administration, domestic passport denials for so-called ‘midwife cases’ are at a 6-year low. The reporting is a political cheap shot.”

Democrats including Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez and Illinois Rep. Luis Gutiérrez, hurled attacks at Trump, however, accusing the administration of attacking minorities.

Supporters of Trump and the law lit up Gallego on social media for his threatening tweet.
