Illegal alien sues Arizona city for $40 million after child dies following detainment ... 6 weeks later

An illegal immigrant is demanding $40 million to compensate for the death of her toddler after leaving an immigration facility in Dilley, Texas.

Yazmin Juarez, a 20-year-old Guatemalan national, is suing the city of Eloy, Arizona, for the wrongful death of her daughter, Mariee, who died weeks after her release from a detainment center, reported Fox News. Yazmin and Mariee claimed asylum after the duo was caught illegally crossing over the U.S.-Mexican border in March.

Shortly after arriving at the South Texas Family Residential Center, Mariee fell ill, running a fever, coughing and experiencing congestion, diarrhea and vomiting, according to R. Stanton Jones, the Juarez family’s attorney. The child died six weeks after she and her mother were released from the facility.

Jones further claimed that the facility’s medical staff failed to note any of Mariee’s reported conditions and discharged her without ever undergoing any type of examination.

The city of Eloy, which is the federal government’s primary contractor that operates the south Texas facility, will be listed as the defendant in Yazmin’s lawsuit.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) defended its treatment of detained individuals.

“ICE takes very seriously the health, safety and welfare of those in our care,” ICE said in a statement, according to the Houston Chronicle. “ICE is committed to ensuring the welfare of all those in the agency’s custody, including providing access to necessary and appropriate medical care. Comprehensive medical care is provided to all individuals in ICE custody.”
