Senator Lindsey Graham thinks President Trump will fire embattled U.S. attorney general Jeff Sessions after the November midterm elections because Trump has lost confidence in him.
“The president is entitled to an attorney general he has faith in,” Graham told CNN. “I think there will come a time, sooner rather than later, where it will be time to have a new face and a fresh voice at the Department of Justice. Replacing him before the elections would be a non-starter, but the idea of having a new attorney general during the first term of President Trump’s administration, I think, is very likely.”
The president has repeatedly slammed Sessions, whose recusal from the Trump-Russia investigation led to the hiring of special counsel Robert Mueller, the former FBI director under Barack Obama who’s a close friend of James Comey.
After more than a year and tens of millions of dollars in wasted taxpayer money, the Mueller probe has yielded no evidence of collusion.

Some Republican lawmakers and many Trump supporters want Sessions to go because they believe President Trump is entitled to have an attorney general who’s a loyal lieutenant to him, the way former AGs Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch were loyal to Obama.
Many Americans also want Sessions gone because they believe he’s ineffective and weak.
Jeff Sessions is turning a blind eye to the prosecutorial overreach in this Russia investigation. Everyone that's been charged with something, had nothing to do with Russia collusion. We have a Justice department that's allowed vigilante justice to take place by a bias FBI system

Sessions has been no help to Trump. Should never have taken the job. #FireSessions

The president has the power to fire Sessions and install a replacement while the senate is in recess he needs someone in there quickly to gather the evidence to discredit all this Russian nonsense.I don’t even think the president understands the power he has. #Facts

But others think Jeff Sessions should not be fired because he has advanced Trump’s agenda to crack down on illegal immigration and stem the deluge of illegal drugs pouring across the U.S.-Mexico border.

One Twitter user said Sessions is quietly at work, but he just can’t talk about pending investigations right now: “He is working hard. He’s just not telling you. Keeping secrets.”
In an interview with Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo, Sessions cracked a coy smile when asked if he’s investigating Hillary Clinton’s unsecured email server and her 33,000 missing emails.
Attorney General Sessions’ tough stances against illegal immigration mirror those of President Trump and millions of Americans.
In March 2017, Sessions warned lawless mayors that they must stop harboring illegal aliens who commit felonies in sanctuary cities.
Sessions said sanctuary cities risk losing billions of dollars in federal aid if they continue to defy national immigration laws. This year, the Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs will award some $4.1 billion in federal grants.
“The Department of Justice will require that jurisdictions seeking or applying for Department of Justice grants to certify compliance with [relevant laws] as a condition of receiving those awards,” Sessions said.
So far, the bid to withhold federal funding from sanctuary cities has not been successful.

In June 2018, a Pennsylvania federal judge ruled that Sessions may not withhold federal funds from Philadelphia due to the city’s sanctuary policies.

Here’s a video of Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney (a Democrat) doing a happy dance to celebrate the court win against the Trump DOJ. The ruling bars the DOJ from withholding federal funding from Philadelphia because it’s a sanctuary city for illegal aliens.
