Within the first three days after BizPac Review uncovered domestic abuse allegations last Sunday against Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison, he won the Democrat nomination to run for the state’s next attorney general seat. ABC and NBC completely ignored the story, while CBS gave it a meager 25 seconds of coverage.
Speaking on Fox News late Friday about this lack of coverage, American Conservative Union chairman Matt Schlapp contrasted the media’s lack of interest in reporting the truth with their hypocritical complaints about their First Amendment rights allegedly being “muzzled.”
“I’ll tell you one thing I don’t like is that the mainstream media refuses to cover this in the same way they cover Republican problems,” he said to host Shannon Bream.
True. According to NewsBusters, within the first three days of domestic abuse allegations against then-White House aide Rob Porter being uncovered in February, CBS spent one hour, four minutes and two seconds discussing it.
“The thing that frustrates a lot of folks is this which is you have journalists who are running around on other networks saying their First Amendment right to report is somehow being muzzled, but no one is muzzling them on this case,” Schlapp continued.
“The voters have to make up their minds as to whether or not these charges are right and true or whether they’re not. And the only way they’re going to be able to do that is if the press follows [Fox News’] lead and actually covers the story This is what we need the press to do.”
But instead it seems like the press wants to act like “the final judge and arbiters to whether or not Keith Ellison is guilty,” he added.
And it’s clear by the media’s decision to ignore or dismiss the allegations against Ellison that the media have already decided he’s innocent. And then they wonder why so few Americans trust them anymore.
“It’s why 14% of Republicans, only 14% of Republicans think the mainstream media is fair in their reporting and I think it’s a big problem for our country,” Schlapp concluded.
Fox News leftist Juan Williams, who was also present during the discussion, disagreed, arguing that Ellison’s “unequivocal” denial of the allegations — Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein also denied the allegations against him — suggests they might not even be legitimate.
Williams also made it a point to note that CBS eventually interviewed Ellison’s accuser Thursday evening. Fair enough, Juan, but why aren’t The New York Times, The Washington Post, ABC, NBC, MSNBC and every other leftist network also trying to interview her?
And why likewise have the media been reluctant to also mention Ellison’s second alleged victim, Amy Alexander, who’s claimed he abused her in 2005?
