Clapper contradicts himself complaining Trump’s clearance threat is ‘infringement’ on free speech

CNN pundit James Clapper, the former DNI chief under Barack Obama, conflated President Trump’s decision to revoke the security clearance of former Obama CIA head John Brennan with a breach of his First Amendment right to free speech.

“The larger issue to me has been infringement on First Amendment rights,” Clapper told CNN. “Infringement of our right to speak, and apparently the appropriateness of being critical of this President.”

For the record, no one is infringing on Brennan’s right to free speech. Access to the nation’s top-secret intelligence is not a right guaranteed under the Constitution. So fall back, Clapper.

Clapper continued, “It’s unprecedented. I don’t know of a case where this has ever been done in the past. Access to clearances normally would be done completely by a sponsoring agency. So in John’s case, the sponsoring agency is CIA. And normally, if there were going to be an action taken like this, it would be done at that level. And not by the White House or not by the president himself.”

Clapper then contradicted his own First-Amendment argument by saying he will continue to speak out even if his security clearance is revoked. He also said the revocation won’t impact him. So why the media hysteria and crocodile tears over free-speech rights?

“If I lose my access to classified information, it really doesn’t have any immediate substantive impact on me,” Clapper said. “I don’t plan to stop speaking when I’m asked my views on this administration.”

Clapper leaked the discredited Steele Dossier to CNN and then lied about it to Congress.

President Trump’s decision to revoke John Brennan’s security clearance may be unprecedented, but so is the vicious anti-Trump bias that has been flagrantly displayed by current and former top officials in the FBI, DOJ, and CIA.

Those agencies are supposed to be nonpartisan, but as James Comey, Peter Strzok, James Clapper, and John Brennan have demonstrated, that is clearly not the case.

Moreover, Brennan, Clapper, Comey, and their anti-Trump comrades have been caught leaking intel to the media. That’s already a clearcut reason to revoke their access to national-security secrets.

“John Brennan has a history of leaking information,” Senator Rand Paul said in July 2018. “Who in their right mind would want to let him have the power still to look through everybody’s records?”

In July, Brennan said the intelligence community should “withhold vital intelligence” from President Trump, a sitting United States president who’s the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces and leader of the free world.

As BizPac Review has reported, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said the security clearance was revoked for ex-CIA director John Brennan — a liberal pundit for MSNBC and NBC — due to his “erratic conduct.”

Sanders explained that in addition to their unhinged rhetoric, Brennan and other former Obama officials are monetizing their access to top-secret intel to work as paid shills for liberal news networks like CNN and MSNBC:

“Mr. Brennan has a history that calls into question his objectivity and credibility.  In 2014, he denied to Congress that CIA officials, under his supervision, had improperly accessed the computer files of congressional staffers.  He told the Council of Foreign Relations that the CIA would never do such a thing.  The CIA’s Inspector General, however, contradicted Mr. Brennan directly, concluding unequivocally that agency officials had indeed improperly accessed congressional staffers’ files.

Additionally, Mr. Brennan has recently leveraged his status as a former high-ranking official with access to highly sensitive information to make a series of unfounded and outrageous allegations — wild outbursts on the Internet and television — about this administration.

Mr. Brennan’s lying and recent conduct, characterized by increasingly frenzied commentary, is wholly inconsistent with access to the nation’s most closely held secrets.”

During the White House press briefing on August 15, several members of the media claimed that President Trump is considering revoking the security clearance of Democrats only. Um, that’s not true.

  • Michael Hayden (Independent appointed by Republican George W. Bush)
  • James Comey (Lifelong Republican until July 2018. Appointed US Attorney by Bush)
  • Andrew McCabe (Republican deputy FBI director. Fired.)
  • Lisa Page (Career FBI attorney. Resigned.)
  • Peter Strzok (Career FBI official. Fired.)
  • Sally Yates (Obama appointee. Fired)
  • Bruce Ohr (Career DOJ attorney)
Liberals are furious that Trump is considering revoking Peter Strzok's access to classified national-security secrets.
Libs are furious that Trump is considering revoking fired FBI official Peter Strzok’s access to classified national-security secrets.

In most jobs, when someone is fired or leaves a company, their access to internal memos and files are terminated to ensure that disgruntled ex-employees don’t use them to sabotage their former employer. Why are the nation’s most sensitive secrets less deserving of such precautions?
