CNN predictably pits ‘pro-Trump’ and ‘ex-Trump’ supporters against each other for explosive focus group

A focus group of Donald Trump voters devolved into chaos as CNN’s Alisyn Camerota attempted to regain control.

The network has apparently found a new way to attack the president, pitting his supporters against those who claim they voted for him in 2016 but now regret the decision. Camerota moderated the group discussion on “New Day” Tuesday which predictably became an over-dramatic free-for-all.

And CNN wants to be taken seriously as a news outlet.

“We thought it would be a good time to check in with Trump voters to see how they’re feeling today,” Camerota introduced the segment. “I sat down with a panel of people from California, Texas, Ohio and New York, all of whom voted for Donald Trump. At one time, these folks were all on the same side, excited about this outsider running for president. But as you’ll see, times have changed and today some feel very differently. So here, now, our next pulse of the people.”

Arthur Schaper praised Trump for his stand on the Second Amendment, securing the border, abortion and for coming through on his promises.

Jeremy Montanez immediately countered, saying he regretted his decision to back Trump.

“I think he’s a monster. I think he’s a bigot and he’s doing a lot of things to ruin people’s lives. I think that he’s taking this country in the wrong direction and it’s a terrifying time for me,” he said.

The discussion turned to illegal immigration as the panel spoke on migrant parents and children being separated after trying to cross the border illegally. The panelists then debated whether Trump was responsible for the divisiveness in the country.

Maryse Selit, a Trump voter who had supposedly made an about-face in her support, launched the discussion to the boiling point.

“My issue with this president, who I voted for, is the fact that he has something negative to say about every other leader, but you try saying one little comment that’s negative about Trump himself, he jumps into a fit and has a Twitter tirade,” she said. “We have a lot of — I hate to be crass about it — idiots who voted for him, including myself at one time.”

“I’m not an idiot!” Schaper shot back, saying he took “great offense” to the remark. Voting for Trump “was a wise decision” for hard-working Americans, he argued.

Damani Felder got into it with Montanez after he apologized to the nation for his vote and went on to explain precisely why he thinks Trump is a racist.

“The reasons why I voted for Donald Trump is based on my perception he is not a racist and he has done so much for the black community,” Felder said. His contention that there is nothing racist about Trump, and this coming from a black man, sent the rest of the panel into a shout-fest.

Camerota appeared unable to reign in the combatants for a few moments. In the studio following the clip, she explained to viewers: “One more time, that was not Clinton voters versus Trump voters.”

As the heated debate provided the perfect fodder for CNN viewers and the Trump-bashing liberal narrative, others were not so easily fooled and called out the network on Twitter.

Even the non-Trump supporters were sick of CNN’s agenda.

Even with all the criticism, it seems unlikely CNN is even listening.
