‘How you’ve all been fooled’: Gutfeld has theory about about Trump’s booming economy

Fox News’ Juan Williams thinks the latest U.S. economic growth figures are “great news” for the nation and believes former President Obama should be given the credit.

The liberal co-host of “The Five” admitted to his colleagues that the stunning GDP report showing growth at a 4.1 percent rate in the second quarter is cause to celebrate but President Trump should not get the glory.

“Is it hard for Democrats to figure out a way to run against Trump on an economy with numbers like this?” co-host Dana Perino asked Williams.

“No. But first, let me just say that I think it’s great news for the country,” he replied.

“The thing about it is the salesman part is exactly, Dana, what opens Trump to critics. People will say ‘You mean you are taking credit for everything?’” he said. ” I thought we just had a record number of quarters of sustained growth coming out of what people, I think, across the aisle call The Great Recession. And it was a tremendous recovery, mostly under President Obama.”

“Historically speaking, every time you have had a recession you do actually spring back and usually the numbers look considerably better,” Trish Regan interjected.

“This was the worst recession, Trish. This was the worst the country had been since the Great Depression,” Williams continued.

“So what we have now is a situation where things are going, I say, you know, full guns, big boom, whatever. We have a 20 trillion-dollar economy. We have near full employment,” he said.  “So the question is, how much growth.

Co-host Greg Gutfeld pointed out the aversion Williams and other liberals have to admitting that Trump has done something praiseworthy.

“You made a list of things because the news is so good. If you step outside the snow globe of say like CNN, which only focuses on porn stars and lawyers, you realize we’re on the verge of a pretty awesome age,” he said.

“I would hope so,” Williams partially conceded. “But I’m just telling you if you look at the reality, we passed tax cuts or the President put in place tax cuts that we saw this week are driving deficits at a higher rate.”

Gutfeld mocked the Trump-hating media for insisting the president is trying to distract from controversies by focusing on the economy and other good news.

“How you all have been fooled. Clearly this is all a distraction from scandal,” Gutfeld said sarcastically.  “He created this booming economy, this low unemployment, peace with North Korea… trade, deregulation, judges. He is doing all this to deflect from scandal.”

“People don’t understand the power of persuasion,” he added.

“But I will go back to this for the never-Trumpers and people who don’t like Donald Trump,” Gutfeld said. “America, you know, we have a choice and it’s like – and I use the metaphor of the doctor – a guy who has a lousy personality but great with a knife or a guy you can like who is terrible on a patient. I think the media keeps focusing on the doctor and not the patient. And the patient is America, and it’s doing great.”
