CNN’s Anderson Cooper struggled to regain control of a fiery segment between a supporter and a critic of President Donald Trump.
Former Trump adviser Steve Cortes andĀ GOP consultant Rick Wilson debatedĀ over news that former Trump attorney Michael Cohen claimed Trump knew about the controversial Trump Tower meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer.
Despite the fact that Trump has denied knowing about the meeting, Cooper asked Cortes about the possibility that the president could be caught in “yet another lie.”
“I don’t concur with your opinion that he’s some sort of serial liar,” Cortes said, causingĀ Wilson to burst into laughter as Cooper unrolled a laundry list of alleged lies he claimed Trump has told.
āNot to put too fine a point on it, Anderson, Steve, look, brother, you are living in an entirely separate linguistic universe if you believe that Donald Trump does not lie out his ass every single day,ā Wilson interjected. āHe is infamous. These are not just lies of omission. These are lies of assertion. This is a guy who lies about everything constantly. Itās not some deep state conspiracy.ā
āHereās the real lie,ā Cortes fired back. āThe real lie is that Russia somehow won this election for Donald Trump, that Russia somehow convinced voters in Wisconsin and Ohio and Michigan that they were duped somehow into voting for Donald Trump. That is the actual grand lie that is being told in Washington, D.C. And in mainstream media all day, every day. Itās a damnable lie.ā
āIt is the birtherism of the left,ā Cortes added as Cooper chimed in that TrumpĀ was the chief proponent of birtherism.
The segment continued its one-way trip off-the rails with Cortes finallyĀ calling Wilson āa birther” and āthe Alex Jones of the left.”
āYouāve lost your mind,ā he said.
