New York City Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio used a $3-million counter-terrorism plane to get home from a vacation in Canada in what law enforcement officials have called an “excessive” use of resources.
De Blasio was reportedly in Quebec for vacation and left to give a speech back in New York City at a memorial for New York Police Department detective Miosotis Familia, who was tragically killed in 2017. De Blasio landed back in New York City around 11 a.m. and made his speech at the memorial at about noon. Before 4 p.m. the Democratic mayor was already back in Canada after riding in the department’s $3 million Cessna 208 Caravan, according to the New York Post.
A spokesman for de Blasio’s office told the Post that it was his first time using the plane but didn’t comment as to why that plane was used.
De Blasio is still on vacation and plans on staying in Canada until Sunday. It is unclear if he plans on taking the $3-million counter-terrorism plane back home.
