Late night lib lays out consequences of Kennedy’s retirement: ‘Feels like all hope is dead’

Late night comedians were in a frenzy Wednesday night after Justice Anthony Kennedy announced he would be retiring, leaving President Donald Trump to fill his seat on The Supreme Court.

Comedy Central’s Trevor Noah said it feels like “all hope is dead,” and thinks the country will end up changing for the worse.

“The only swing vote on the Supreme Court is gone. Who cares about anything any more, I’m going crazy, people,” Noah said on “The Daily Show.” “Because remember, remember, this is going to be Donald Trump’s second Supreme Court pick. Because in 2016 Mitch McConnell stole Obama’s Supreme Court pick. And you can hate the fact that Mitch McConnell did it, but the way he did it was super slick. He did that shit Mission Impossible style.”

Noah then compared Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to cartoon characters Pinky and the Brain, before continuing to sulk about Kennedy’s retirement.

“Although Donald Trump may be a klutz. He’s the pinkie in every situation, Mitch McConnell is the brain,” he concluded. “I know it is sad to think about and I know this news is very painful for a lot of people. It feels like for the next 30 years America is going to change in a horrible direction. In some ways it feels like all hope is dead and nothing can bring it back.”

Late night comics Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers and Conan O’Brien also took on Trump in their monologues with Colbert saying America is “supremely screwed.”
