Trump calls out impatient Harley-Davidson for moving production overseas due to tariffs

President Donald Trump called out Harley-Davidson for moving some of their production overseas due to tariffs placed on the U.S. by European countries in a tweet Monday.

“Surprised that Harley-Davidson, of all companies, would be the first to wave the White Flag. I fought hard for them and ultimately they will not pay tariffs selling into the E.U., which has hurt us badly on trade, down $151 Billion. Taxes just a Harley excuse – be patient! #MAGA,” Trump tweeted.

The comments come as the motorcycle manufacturer announced they would have to make the move due to new tariffs placed by the European Union (EU) on the U.S. The tariffs would cost Harley-Davidson up to $45 million for the rest of 2018, according to the company.

The company mentioned that the tariffs on motorcycles exported from the U.S. went up from 6 percent to 31 percent in the past few weeks, which is an increase “of approximately $2,200 per average motorcycle exported from the U.S. to the EU,” according to Harley-Davidson.
