A House Republican is calling for Rep. Maxine Waters to resign and has introduced a measure to censure her over comments inciting harassment of Trump administration officials.
Waters’ comments “do not become somebody who’s in Congress” and require disciplinary action, Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs told The Hill.
“So we just introduced it, we have some cosponsors, but what she did was to basically incite people to come after and attack members of the president’s cabinet,” the Arizona Republican said Monday. “And also spread that out to more people.”
“Everybody agrees that it was just highly objectionable what she did,” he added.
Waters urged supporters at a rally in Los Angeles over the weekend to confront Trump administration officials “anywhere” they see them.
“If you think we’re rallying now you ain’t seen nothing yet,” the California Democrat said. “If you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd and you push back on them, and you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere.”

The House GOP measure calls on Waters to issue a formal apology to officials in the Trump administration “for endangering their lives and sowing seeds of discord” and to release a statement that harassment and violence are not appropriate ways to protest. The measure also calls for the congresswoman to resign her House seat.
Waters defended herself on Monday during an MSNBC interview, claiming, “I did not call for harm for anybody. The president lied again.”
She attempted to pivot away from the controversy over her inflammatory rallying cry by insisting the focus should be on “the fact that children have been snatched from their parents’ arms,” referring to the Trump administration’s immigration policies. She burst into tears when pressed on the fact that even Democrats have denounced her remarks.
President Trump tweeted, “Be careful what you wish for Max!” on Monday, in response to Waters’ controversial comments, slamming her as an “extraordinarily low IQ person.”

Meghan McCain slammed Waters for her “extremely dangerous” call to harass members of Trump’s cabinet, tweeting, “My father in law works in the administration, does this mean when we go out to dinner we should be ambushed?!?”

The divisive rhetoric by Waters, an unhinged Trump critic who has repeatedly called for the president to be impeached, comes on the heels of top Trump administration officials — including White House press secretary Sarah Sanders and Homeland Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen — being disrespectfully treated while dining out.
Former George W. Bush White House press secretary Ari Fleischer joined the calls for Congress to censure Waters on Monday, according to The Daily Caller.
“There’s enough in this society, you don’t engage in those types of practices. And, Maxine basically denied that she called on people to harass others. No peace, no rest. So she is still sticking by what she has done,” Fleischer said.
“The press needs to have a feeding frenzy among the left as they always do on the right. It’s her turn now. Frankly I’m at the point where, if she continues to double down the House ought to take up a motion to censure her. Because this does lead to violence, Fleisher added.
Five members of Congress so far have signed on to the motion to censure, according to The Hill.
