Walter Shaub, the former ethics director under Barack Obama, comically accused White House press secretary Sarah Sanders of violating ethics laws when she revealed she had been kicked out of a restaurant because she works for the president of the United States.
Shaub sanctimoniously tried to score virtual-signaling points by tweeting: “Sarah, I know you don’t care even a tiny little bit about the ethics rules, but using your official account for this is a clear violation of 5 CFR 2635.702(a).”
Shaub was responding to Sanders’ tweet, where she said: “Last night I was told by the owner of Red Hen in Lexington, VA to leave because I work for [President Trump] and I politely left.”

Shaub claimed Sanders had violated 5 CFR 2635.702(a), an ethics rule that bars federal employees from using their positions for private gain (usually financial).
Sanders gained nothing financially from being callously kicked out of Red Hen restaurant, so Shaub’s accusation is absurd.
The incident would have been publicized anyway, in the same way that DHS secretary Kirstjen Nielsen’s harassment at a Mexican restaurant made headlines. Sanders merely beat the media to the punch by disclosing the facts, which no one disputes.
Here’s the exact wording of 5 CFR 2635.702, so there’s no confusion:
“An employee may not use his public office for his own private gain or for that of persons or organizations with which he is associated personally. An employee’s position or title should not be used to coerce; to endorse any product, service or enterprise; or to give the appearance of governmental sanction.”
Sarah Sanders gained nothing from being kicked out of an obscure restaurant, nor did she condemn or “sanction” Red Hen. She merely stated the facts. Moreover, the restaurant’s liberal owner, Stephanie Wilkinson, did not deny that Sanders “politely left.”
If anything, Red Hen got worldwide press coverage and gained thousands of Twitter followers. When the incident first occurred, Red Hen’s Twitter account — which had been inactive since 2014 — had less than 300 followers. Now it has more than 18,800.
Walter Shaub trashed Sanders even though she was the victim of discrimination. Meanwhile, he said nothing when his former boss, Barack Obama, separated children from their illegal-alien parents for 8 years, ignoring reports that his administration beat and starved them.

This latest incident spotlights how Trump Derangement Syndrome is causing liberals to make mountains out of molehills in order to attack President Trump and his aides.
Stephanie Wilkinson, the owner of Red Hen, told the Washington Post that she stands by her decision to throw a paying customer out of her restaurant because they’re a Trump supporter, and she’d do it again.
“Absolutely, yes, I would have done the same thing again,” Wilkinson bragged. “We just felt there are moments in time when people need to live their convictions. This appeared to be one.”
According to her LinkedIn profile, Wilkinson is also the founder and publisher of Brain Child, a magazine for moms. (P.S. – Sarah Sanders is the mom of three children.)
According to its website, here’s Brain Child’s mission statement: “The magazine strives to bring together the many voices of women from different backgrounds, circumstances, and experiences in a way that provides mothers with insight and perspective into real issues.” Ha! What a joke.
While Sanders did not condemn Red Hen, social media served up a heaping serving of karma by clapping back at the discriminatory restaurant.

Daily Wire reporter Ryan Saavedra pointed out that liberals are again advocating more fiercely on behalf of illegals than supporting suicidal, homeless U.S. military veterans. You know, the people who risked their lives to ensure leftists’ rights to protest against America in the first place.
