James A. Wolfe, a former security director for the Senate Intelligence Committee, was arrested and indicted for allegedly lying to FBI agents who are investigating the ongoing media leaks about the sham DOJ investigation of “Trump Russia collusion,” which has so far produced no evidence.
Ironically, Wolfe was the committee’s security director for 29 years. His job was to ensure that leaks of classified intelligence do not occur. But a DOJ investigation suggests that Wolfe lied to the FBI and may have repeatedly leaked classified intel to the media.
Wolfe is not charged with leaking classified intel (yet), but of lying to the FBI, which is a federal crime punishable by five years in prison for each instance.
“Wolfe is alleged to have lied to FBI agents in December 2017 about his repeated contacts with three reporters, including through his use of encrypted messaging applications,” the DOJ revealed in a statement. “Wolfe is further alleged to have made false statements to the FBI about providing two reporters with non-public information.”
The Department of Justice has made investigating leaks a priority after President Trump expressed outrage at the constant flow of leaks.
“Mr. Wolfe’s alleged conduct is a betrayal of the extraordinary public trust that had been placed in him,” said U.S. Attorney Jessie Liu. “It is hoped that these charges will be a warning to those who might lie to law enforcement to the detriment of the United States.”
The DOJ statement came hours after the New York Times revealed that the FBI had seized several years of email and phone records from one of its reporters, Ali Watkins (photo above). Watkins and Wolfe had dated during this time.

Circumstantial evidence suggests that Wolfe leaked top-secret intel to Ali Watkins when she was a reporter at BuzzFeed before joining the New York Times. She also previously worked at Politico and McClatchy.
According to the DOJ indictment, Ali Watkins published a story on BuzzFeed in April 2017 claiming former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page had met with a Russian operative just hours after her married boyfriend Wolfe had extensive contact with Page.
The BuzzFeed report was a catalyst for the sham Trump-Russia investigation, which Robert Mueller began overseeing in May 2017.
Wolfe admitted to the FBI that he had lied about his romantic relationship with Ali Watkins after being confronted with photos of them together.
