A sharp-worded audiotape of President Donald Trumpās personal attorney, Michael Cohen, speaking with a reporter was released by National Public Radio.
Aiming to expose how Cohen has used intimidation tactics and threats to protect Trump, NPR on Thursday released the 2015 audio of the call between the attorney and NPRās Tim Mak, who had been working on a story for The Daily Beast at the time.
WhileĀ investigating claims from Trumpās first wife, Ivana Trump, that sheād been raped by her husband, Mak reached out to the president’s former aide, Hope Hicks in 2015. Ivana Trump later walked back her “rape” claims but at the time, Mak received a direct call from a furious Cohen.
**Warning for harsh language:
āYouāre talking about Donald Trump, youāre talking about the front-runner for the GOP, presidential candidate, as well as private individual, who never raped anybody and of course understand that by the very definition you canāt rape your spouse,ā Cohen said.
āMark my words for it, I will make sure that you and I meet one day over in the courthouse and I will take you for every penny you still donāt have, and I will come after your Daily Beast and everybody else that you possibly know,ā Cohen told Mak. āDo not even think about going where I know youāre planning on going. And thatās my warning for the day.ā
But Cohen was not done as he continued on the call.
āSo Iām warning you, tread very f-ing lightly because what Iām going to do to you is going to be f-ing disgusting,ā he added.
āDo you understand me? Donāt think you can hide behind your pen because itās not going to happen,ā he said. āIām more than happy to discuss it with your attorney and with your legal counsel because motherf-ers youāre going to need it.ā
Cohen apparently encouraged Mak to go ahead with his story as he told the reporter it would be his “absolute pleasure” to sue him.
āI think you should go ahead and write the story that you plan on writing; I think you should do it because I think youāre an idiot, all right, and I think your paper is a joke. And itās going to be my absolute pleasure to serve you with a $500 million lawsuit,” he told Mak.
A lawsuit never materialized but former Trump political adviser Sam Nunberg revealed that there were internal calls within the Trump campaign to fire Cohen, who later apologizedĀ for his claims that spousal rape is not illegal.
Make no mistake, liberals are already making a lot of hay out of the recording. The release of the audio added fuel to the fire of Stormy Danielās lawyer Michael Avenatti who was quick to jump on it:
