Former president Barack Obama tried to “take over” the FBI investigation of the 2016 Trump campaign for political reasons. And the Obama FBI started illegally spying on Trump aides without having a legitimate reason to do so.
Those are the bombshell revelations that The Hill’s award-winning investigative journalist John Solomon made on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show.

“The efforts to begin targeting and reaching out to Trump campaign officials to gain intelligence on Russia that would ultimately justify the investigation began weeks and months before the FBI had a formal predicate,” Solomon said. “That’s very important. The rules say you can’t use sources until you have a predicated investigation.”
It’s illegal for the government to spy on private U.S. citizens for no reason. Solomon says the Obama FBI opened an investigation into the 2016 Trump campaign and started spying on Trump aides first, and then retroactively tried to find reasons to justify the bogus investigation.
That’s like randomly charging a person with a crime, and then retroactively looking for evidence to back up the fake charges. And then when you can’t find evidence of wrongdoing, you look for some other reason to charge him.
“The predication [for the bogus probe] is July 2016, and I show that there were contacts going on by people identified as informants that began much earlier than July 31,” Solomon said. “That’s the first part.”
He continued: “The second part is, as the investigation was just starting to ramp up, there are internal FBI documents showing the FBI talking about the White House ‘taking over’ the investigation and fears the Justice Department was going to leak.”
Hannity asked: “You mean the Obama White House was attempting to take over the investigation?”
Solomon replied: “That’s what the messages [between Peter Strzok and Lisa Page] say…The text messages are short and don’t give a lot of detail, but the words ‘the White House is running this’ are clear in the text messages.”
Solomon also said the upper echelons of the Obama FBI feared that he was not aggressive enough toward Russia, despite all the Russia! Russia! Russia! hysteria the left is currently fomenting to use against President Trump. Solomon revealed details in a June 1 column for The Hill.
These are the latest shocking developments in the flailing Robert Mueller investigation, which has so far produced no evidence of collusion or obstruction. Sadly, taxpayers have wasted almost $17 million on the Russia probe since Mueller took over in 2017, according to a spending report just released by the DOJ.
About $10 million was spent in the five months between October 2017 and March 2018 alone. That includes $4.5 million in hefty salaries for Mueller’s team of Trump-hating Democratic attorneys, and another $5.5 million spent on random expenses.
All of this confirms the suspicions that millions of Americans have about the Obama FBI’s investigation of the 2016 Trump campaign: That it’s a taxpayer-funded, politically motivated witch hunt launched specifically to undermine and obstruct President Trump. Why? Because Obama holdovers don’t like Trump and basically want to undo the votes cast by the 63 million Americans who put Donald Trump in office.
Not surprisingly, President Trump is outraged. So are millions of Americans, Mr. President.
