Roseanne Barr’s controversial tweet about former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett has led to the cancellation of her show on ABC.
The network announced Tuesday that it has decided to cancel the sitcom’s reboot after the actress tweeted, then deleted, remarks that Jarrett was the offspring of the “Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes.”

“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said in a statement, according to ABC.
After several tweets sparked a firestorm of backlash, Barr deleted the tweet about Jarrett and apologized, saying the comments were made in “bad taste.”
I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste.

Contributing producer on “Roseanne,” Wanda Sykes had just announced she would not be coming back for the show’s second revival season due to the controversial tweet.
I will not be returning to @RoseanneOnABC.

Sara Gilbert, who plays Barr’s daughter on the show, reacted to the news and appeared to put some distance between the cast and the show’s namesake star.
This is incredibly sad and difficult for all of us, as we’ve created a show that we believe in, are proud of, and that audiences love— one that is separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member.

Roseanne’s recent comments about Valerie Jarrett, and so much more, are abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show. I am disappointed in her actions to say the least.

Barr’s critics celebrated the news and praised ABC for its swift action while also finding a way to bash President Trump.
Roseanne got cancelled, good job USA!
Now impeach and arrest Trump and find the 1500 missing children

Waking up to Roseanne’s show being cancelled is the best news I’ve had in a while. What makes it even better is that she did it to herself. Do we thank God for this one or do we thank her? ?

But many defended the star and blasted the double standard that seems always evident in an increasingly divided nation.
I don’t get it #SNL makes fun of @realDonaldTrump week after week @therealroseanne makes a joke about Valerie Jarrett and @ABCNetwork cancels her show and she apologized!

More liberal bias in the media! She is only cancelled because she is a Trump Supporter I support #Rosanne
— Donald J Trump (@_AltDonaldTrump) May 29, 2018
Roseanne made some racist comments, apologized for it and her show was taken off the air.
Joy Behar, Joy Reid and Jimmy Kimmel make racist comments, constantly attack this administration for their beliefs in god and yet they still have a platform with no recourse. LIBERAL BIAS!

ABC cancelled the show. Now we have not only a violation of the freedom of speech but censorship. Liberals will not stop until Orwell is proven right. ABC has no values except ratings, greed, and far left terrorism.

Why is The View still on? Hypocrisy of Disney
— Elephant in the Room (@Tweetingonyou) May 29, 2018
Look@ all the horrid things the left says about POTUS and his family and Trump supporters!! That’s ok??? The View should’ve been canceled a long time ago if that was the standard ABC was following !!!

Roseanne exercised her free speech and ABC decided to end their free association. Now it’s on you to either support her or not, boycott ABC or not, or share your own opinion as a free person or not. Once again, freedom is messy but it’s better than the alternative.
