A Democratic mayor in Colorado has denounced his son’s “inexcusable” behavior in spewing profanity at the police officer who stopped him for a traffic violation.
Denver Mayor Michael Hancock hopes his son can apologize in person after police body camera footage showed him hurling insults at a police officer who pulled him over for speeding, according to KDVR-TV.
The officer wrote, “Attitude very poor-see video,” on the traffic ticket issued to Hancock who was allegedly driving 65 miles an hour in a 40 miles per hour zone.
“My dad’s the mayor, you f—ing f–got,” Hancock is seen ranting in the video clip reportedly shot in March.
“Of Denver? Well you’re in Aurora,” the officer replied.
“Guess what, I’m about to get you fired you f—ing b—h,” Hancock said a moment later.
WARNING: EXPLICIT LANGUAGE
The young man’s father said the officer “didn’t deserve” to be treated that way by Hancock.
“The last thing we want is young men interacting with our police officers in that manner, particularly African American young men, and so he recognizes that and he certainly understands that the officer didn’t deserve the interaction that he had. So he’s written an apology to the officer and he hopes that one day he gets a chance to personally apologize,” the mayor said, according to KDVR.
The 22-year-old, who told the judge in a mandatory court appearance Monday that he was speeding because he was running late, agreed to pay a $250 fine.
Hancock did not respond to questions by Denver 7 about the incident following his court appearance.
His father had tweeted out a statement before speaking to the press.
We’ve addressed our son’s behavior at a traffic stop w/him. He’s apologized to the officer. While we don’t support nor condone his inexcusable actions & words, we love our son dearly & will work w/him to turn a personal mistake into a valuable lesson for himself & the community.

Earlier this year, the democratic mayor was accused of sexual harassment by a former member of his security team. He issued an apology at the time, saying that text messages he had shared in 2012 “blurred the lines between being a friend and being a boss.”
Meanwhile, Aurora’s police department is on the hunt for who leaked the video, which was published online by Denver 7.
The television station reported that “only a portion” of the video was leaked and that a Twitter account linked to Jordan Hancock “includes years of anti-police sentiments.”
