The editors of USA Today may just be rethinking a question they asked readers in the wake of protests and a boycott effort against Starbucks.
“Is it ever OK to kick you out of a store?” USA Today tweeted Wednesday, asking readers for their view in light of the news that a Philadelphia Starbucks arrested two black men who were accused of refusing to leave after trying to use the store’s restroom without making a purchase.

Even though the Starbucks employee who asked the men to leave was following a longstanding company policy, the arrest created a firestorm of backlash and cries of racism, prompting apologies from the coffee giant. Starbucks also announced it will be closing 8,000 coffee shops nationwide on May 29 to conduct “racial-bias” training for its employees with help from far left groups such as the Anti-Defamation League and the NAACP as well as former Attorney General Eric Holder.

Probably not the reaction USA Today was expecting, though the publication’s article noted that “there are a few acceptable reasons, but legally they had better be consistent and within store policy — and race is never one of them.”
