Geraldo admits he was wrong, Syria strikes a ‘huge win’ for Trump

Geraldo Rivera could find no other way to spin his response to the strikes on Syria other than to admit he was wrong.

Rivera acknowledged that, despite his misgivings, Friday’s strike on Syria in response to last weekend’s chemical weapons attack was a “huge win” for President Trump.

“First of all I think it is a huge win for President Trump. I had my doubts because I feared that the retaliatory strike was in cold blood, too much time had passed,” Rivera said on “Fox & Friends” Saturday.

“I was wrong. This was a dramatic and proportional strike. It was awesome,” he said.

“I’m delighted that the British and the French joined in, this awesome air armada which accomplished exactly what the Pentagon wanted it to,” Rivera added, applauding the message being sent to Syrian president, Bashar al Assad.

The Fox News host pointed out that it seemed even other nations believe Assad “had it coming,” after a deadly chemical weapon attack in Douma.

Rivera questioned what the U.S. goal was in moving forward with Syria but hope there was no long-term plan to “build a nation.”

“I hope that we don’t stick around to build a nation here,” he said.

“But in terms of this military strike, I think it hit exactly what they wanted it to.  The Syrian air defense capability was shown to be woeful in the face of our modern weapons, and it really does appear that there was no ‘wag the dog’ vibe from this,” Rivera added, referring to MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow remarking that “the President may have ordered these strikes in part because of scandal.”

“Nobody suspects that President Trump did this to distract from his domestic woes,” Rivera said.  “This was, in every regard––I wouldn’t necessarily say Mission Accomplished, but I will say that Assad crossed the red line.”

“Trump said, ‘Don’t cross the red line. If you do, you’re gonna be punished,'” Rivera concluded. “And he was punished. He was hurt. I applaud the president and the men and women in our armed forces.”
