A Florida gun shop owner is still shaken by a run-in with alleged Parkland mass murderer Nikolas Cruz.
The incident took place at his store Coconut Creek Pawn & Guns just months before the deadly shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school killed 17 innocent civilians.
The man, who is only going by ‘Razi,’ told his harrowing story to ABC affiliate Local 10 news, and it goes directly to the heart of pending gun legislation in the state of Florida.
“He was cool. He was quiet. He was not nervous at all,” the owner said of Cruz.
“And I asked him, it’s the first question I ask everybody, ‘How old are you?'” Razi said. “And I believe he said, ‘Oh, I’m over 18.’ I said, ‘Are you under 21?’ He said, ‘Yes,’ and I said, ‘I don’t sell any firearms to under the age of 21.'”
Cruz then argued with Razi over the store policy.
“And I said, ‘Because I don’t need an 18-year-old to buy (a) weapon and clear out his high school with it,” he said.
Razi elaborated that his policy was not just directed at Cruz.
“Not just him,” Razi said. “I tell it to every kid who comes here to buy weapons.”
The Associated Press reported that Cruz bought the weapon, a Smith & Wesson M&P 15 .223, at Sunrise Tactical Supply. Cruz cleared a criminal background check, but had given off many red flags that went ignored by the FBI and local police authorities.
At one point, Cruz even left a negative review of Coconut Creek Pawn & Guns.
“Very judgmental and denied me service,” Cruz wrote.
Florida legislation that would raise the firearms sale age to 21 is expected to be signed by Governor Rick Scott.
“I have chills really coming down my spine,” Razi said about confronting Cruz. “I mean, thank God I have not sold this monster a weapon.”
