Dana Loesch booed by town hall crowd for bringing up rape victim who had wished for a gun

NRA spokesperson Dana Loesch was one of few brave Second Amendment supporters to argue their case in front of a truly emotional and hostile crowd.

CNN stacked its audience full of pro-gun control students and grieving parents from Parkland, Florida for a televised town hall Wednesday night.

Loesch and Florida Senator Marco Rubio were in attendence to represent the view millions of Americans share – that guns aren’t the root of the problem when it comes to mass shootings. Loesch pointed out that law enforcement had been warned dozens of times of the Florida shooter, yet nothing was done to stop him.

And what do you do when the government can’t (or won’t) protect you? You protect yourself.

No other moment during the emotional town hall may have been more telling than when Loesch brought up a rape survivor who wished she had a gun to defend herself – and was booed.

“But I also think of young women, and you’ve had a previous town hall where you spoke with a young woman named Kim Corban, who was a college student who was brutally raped in her dorm and she was under the age of 21,” Loesch said.

Loesch was making the case against the push to raise the age to buy a rifle from 18 to 21 or older. She made the argument of Kim Corban, who was featured at a previous town hall, and had explained how she wished she had a gun to protect herself from the violent rape in her college dorm.

“And one of the things that she speaks out about loudly now, is how she wished she would have had the ability to have some sort — a shotgun, whatever it was, to be able to defend herself,” Loesch argued before she was cut off by loud boos and jeers.

Loesch went on to try to make her case, but it was clear by the response from the town hall crowd, they were in no mood to listen.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio was also condemned by the crowd for his pro gun rights stance. Rubio called for an investigation into the FBI’s apparent mishandling of warnings it received about the school shooter.

It’s also been widely reported that local police were called dozens of times over the gunman’s violent behavior. The high school was also very aware of his violent tendencies and open threats and arguably didn’t take proper security measures to protect its students.

It’s understandable why the CNN town hall crowd was emotional and reactionary, but it’s still puzzling that so many seem willing to forfeit the right to protect themselves and leave it up to the very government that so tragically failed them in the first place.

It should be noted that not everyone, even from Parkland, Florida, was in lock-step with the town hall crowd’s thinking. Student ROTC member Colton Haab was hailed a hero for helping to save lives that tragic day. But, he turned down the opportunity to appear at the town hall and accused CNN of scripting what he was to say and ask.
