KFC runs out of chicken, closing nearly 1,000 stores

The fast-food chain KFC will be closing nearly 1,000 of its stores in the United Kingdom due to a low supply of chicken, the company announced Monday.

After KFC, formerly known as Kentucky Fried Chicken, switched delivery services, 900 of their restaurants were forced to shut down. The company said in a statement that the reason for closing the restaurants was because getting chicken delivered “fresh” across the United Kingdom is “pretty complex.”

“We’ve brought a new delivery partner onboard, but they’ve had a couple of teething problems – getting fresh chicken out to 900 restaurants across the country is pretty complex,” KFC said on its website.

The company said they would not lower their expectations on the quality of their chicken, therefore leaving restaurants closed or with a smaller menu.

DHL, the delivery service in charge of distributing the chicken, is working with KFC to fix the situation, they said in a statement to Reuters.

“We are working with KFC and our partners to rectify the situation as a priority and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused,” a spokeswoman for DHL said.

KFC said it hopes to see everyone back in their restaurants “soon.”
