Actress Nicole Eggert appeared on NBC’s “Megyn Kelly Today” on Tuesday to press her assertion that “Charles in Charge” co-star Scott Baio sexually abused her and explain why she lied about that in the past.
Flanked by feminist lawyer Lisa Bloom, Eggert had a ready answer when host Megyn Kelley asked about previous remarks that discredit her claim that Baio had sex with her when she was 17 years old.
Eggert said she lied to protect the show, but she’s not lying now.
But Eggert had an interesting way of saying it, when Kelly asked her about the math that showed she was already 18-year-old when the actors had sex.
“What my truth is,” she said, “is that I wasn’t ready to tell my story and for me it was always protecting the show and protecting that whole legacy that nothing happened there. That was my delusion and that was my cover-up always.”
Eggert made her claim against Baio on social media last week in response to a tweet on Baio supporting President Donald Trump.
Baio responded with fierce determination, posting a 16 minute Facebook video to “prove her claims are 100% lies.” He proceeded to methodically lay out a case that the accusations are untrue.

When asked if she was a “willing participant” in their sexual encounter, Eggert again parsed her words.
“I was a willing participant to an extent,” the actress explained. “There was a lot of manipulation that went into it — it was not a ‘hold-me-down-rape-me’ kind of situation. But I was 17.”
And even though Eggert had previously said the encounter happened after the show had concluded, she now says it was while it was still being shot — which would make her 17, not 18.
As for Eggert suggesting in an interview that she was the initiator because she wanted to lose her virginity, the actress had an answer for that too.
“I was in the moment of the show,” she told Kelly, repeating her earlier claim that she wasn’t ready to tell her story.
Bloom said Baio may face legal consequences, and Eggert reinforced that threat in responding to him telling her that if she has a case, go to the police.
“Be careful what you wish for,” Eggert said.
